  1. Okay, so back from the doc. I have some inflammation in my eye, so I'm on eye drops and will see him again next Friday. He hasn't expressed any concerns about my vision to date and I haven't noticed any changes in my visual acuity. So, we'll see what we see.

    4. Good news indeed!
I know that doesn't take away the discomfort, but it sure must be a balm in the struggle.

  2. So Obamacare repeal appears dead. The Republicans only hope before 2018 is for an Arizona special election where they replace McCain with someone willing to vote for repeal. And that's iffy on several fronts.

    1. As Chuck Schumer said, not a victory celebration but a sigh of relief.

    From the article:

“What about Trump, exactly, reflects their values? (Taking Medicaid away from millions and separating families to deport law-abiding immigrants?),” Rubin wrote. “The Trump administration is a clown show — but it’s the evangelicals who supplied the tent, the red noses and the floppy shoes. Each day presents a new insult to the office of the presidency and a repudiation of civilized behavior.”

  4. Don’t mess with Alaska.[Click] Arguably the most socialist state in the nation, I might add.

  5. The main problem with electric cars as they are now is that the energy storage devices (batteries) they use are simply not fit for purpose. This[Click] is the only currently promising solution that I am aware of, and it seems only to be in the proof of concept stage.

    1. I see that Blogger ate my comment on the REALLY OLD CHEVY TRUCK, to wit:

      I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK!

HA! I remember when that truck was new (1960's, only half a century ago...), so it can't be really old. Steel wheels, self starter, hydraulic brakes, radio, electric turn signals (not to mention electric lights) and almost no end of other modern luxuries! And robust security, too--no one can hack into the car's computer via the satellite radio link and mess with the accelerator, ignition, or brakes, so there!

    2. I *thought* it didn't look all that old!

    3. If that truck is "really old," then yours truly is "really old," seeing as we both came off the assembly line at roughly the same time.

Thanks a bundle for the morale boost, Listener. :(

    4. LOL! Hey, I was a little kid when this came out and I honestly don't remember seeing any of them. The family who owns the Island has been there for over 100 years. So I figured it was 1950's maybe. To have ANY vehicle still running after 50 years is pretty amazing, isn't it? It *IS* really old for a VEHICLE! Humans, by contrast, well, it's apples and oranges. And, Cat, I'm older than you! :-)

    5. Hey, Cat -- what's wrong with being old? It sure beats the alternative!

”This report from Channel 4 in London is absolutely priceless.”[Click] Commenter: “Amazing summary. Excellent reporting from the British journalist who lays out facts for British viewers of the American shit show.”

  7. Finished Asimov's The Roman Republic this evening. My goodness but the part about Caesar and Pompey was exciting!

BARD (the NLS download service) has his book on the Roman Empire in a Spanish language edition, but not an English language edition. Go figure. Must search Perkins Library's online catalog for a hard copy (digital cartridge or cassette) copy of the English edition. Gotta see how the story turns out. LOL

  8. 😲 "Secretary of Energy Rick Perry is in charge of our nuclear weapons and was duped into spending a half hour with a Russian phone prankster who he thought was Ukraine’s prime minister, Volodymyr Groysman."
