Little Beach on Coates Island

  1. puddle--the Digby article you linked to last night is less restrained but not substantially different from what the retired local head of the Immigration and Naturalization Service has been saying in letters to and columns in the local newspaper, which I hope are being disseminated by the McClatchy wire service.

  2. The newspapers have reported on the 2018 DNC platform. It seems a bit more progressive than the 2016 platform, which you'll recall was a compromise that incorporated much but not all of what Bernie fought for.

Of course, each candidate will do what s/he wants regardless of the platform. Let's hope they don't just run on "I'm not Trump."

  3. I'm surprised no one has commented on the Senate vote. A bit disappointing that the Republicans were able to generate *just* enough party discipline to proceed to debate. But half a dozen plans will be debated, and it's unlikely that any of them will have enough votes to pass. Unless the leadership can convince enough people, "Let's just pass *something* and let the conference committee thrash it out." And then the conference bill has to somehow garner enough votes to pass.

    1. I've been too busy until now to comment. I did keep tabs on the doings as the day progressed, though. While I would have preferred for the vote to fail, since McCain's vote made it possible, at least he also made it clear he does not intend to vote for what they now have, and threw down the gauntlet for the Republicans to work with Democrats (plus Bernie). Let's see what they're capable of.

    2. I take back that last line. I'm not sure we want to see what that crew is capable of. Heh.
