Late Season Beauty

  1. Bernie and the revolution he inspired are first.

Puddle, I understand all too well the frustration of Blogger eating posts! Thanks for trying.

Listener, have a good time on Nantucket.

Alan, thanks for the reminder. I established a small recurring donation to Brand New Congress.

This evening I took my first photos with the iPad. Despite the piece of equipment being considerably larger and more unwieldy than the iPhone, the camera controls are much easier to use. Got a couple of Nickie sleeping all bundled up in a quilt. If I can work out how to do it, I'll post one here at some point.

She is such a silly kitty! While I was fiddling with the camera and finding the right distance to position myself and so forth, she got up out of her nice nest and walked straight at me. It's like she can read my mind that I'm thinking about snapping a picture of her. Eventually I managed it though, and used the iPad's features to post to FB. Whether I can get it over here remains to be seen, but we'll give it the old college try.

    1. I wasn't able to set up a recurring donation to BNC, but sent them an inquiry and a one-time donation for now. There were temporary problems with doing it for Wikipedia, but those finally got worked out. It seems there were some sort of technical changes going on at PayPal.

  2. I've been reading a delightful book, At Home At Thrush Green [Click] Come to find out, it's part of a series set in a Cotswold village. Not a whole lot happens. It's a quiet, gentle book that I found utterly charming and absorbing. Must look for more books in the series. I rather think Puddle and Listener might enjoy it, but am not so sure about Susan and the fellas. The link is for demonstration purposes only. You may be able to find the book secondhand elsewhere. I got it from Audible, where it is no longer available, much to my dismay.

Sounds quite different from The Return of She...but we do have a need for variety, no? BTW, I was never able to get through The Woman in White.

  3. Oops! I wasn't thinking when I wrote in the previous thread about the classical ship found in the depths of the Black Sea north of Sinop [Click] that it was found north of Sinopoli (which is in Italy--Magna Graecia, and probably named after Sinope on the Black Sea coast.) I thought at the time of checking my geography, but failed to do so.

  4. Let's start with her slogan "I'm with Her".....you pledge your loyalty to her, but what does she do for you? Shouldn't she have used something more like "She's with Us"? As to your #2, Alan, I remember that well and it really made me angry --so completely hypocritical, but also very typical of her at the same time. She switches positions faster than a weather vane in a high wind.

Regarding 2). She is boring and has no charisma whatsoever. Her voice is harsh and I can't bear to listen to her. She is dismissive to the extreme of anyone who disagrees with her or challenges her and she's really big on calling people names.

Misogyny was used as a weapon against her because she is a woman and that's a handy attack avenue for the lazy. But she also used misogyny as a weapon, having surrogates tell us "there's a special place in Hell" for women who don't support Hillary. (Guess I'll be good and toasty).

Hillary is a woman of poor character and I truly believe she ran for Ego's sake and not for the people of this country. I read that one of her aides advised her NOT TO RUN AGAIN after she lost in 2008. She didn't listen. Whether it's fair or not people *just do not like her*. Her supporters keep trying to say that it's because we've been brainwashed by Republican hit pieces. That is just not true. I don't like her because of her casual disregard for life, for her using the grief of mothers in order to garner votes, for her love of war and her casual brushing aside the lives that will be lost as a result. She has admitted herself that she has been privileged for so long that she can't relate to "regular people". We are like some strange new animal in the zoo to her, and she has no idea of the lives we live - the problems we face - or the concerns we have. Right now my daughter is working a full-time and a part-time job for a total of 70 hours a week because her husband can't work and can't get disability. Her daughter lives in a luxury apartment in NYC that covers an entire city block. How the hell could Hillary relate to the struggles my child goes through, especially when she has demonstrated no desire to do so.

Okay, I have to go do Mama stuff now. I have plenty more in my craw, but it'll wait for another ignition.

Oh, and Alan, you forgot that Melania was also a nude model and an actress in a lesbian porn.

I would love to see a woman President, but Hillary was Not The One.

  5. Susan--Maybe you missed my question a thread or two back; what do you think of Sherrod Brown? Away out here across rivers, plains and mountains, I am unacquainted with him, and can't evaluate what folks say about him.

  6. From what I've been able to observe, Sherrod seems like a true Progressive. At least that's the way he's always voted. I don't know if he'll hold onto his seat because Ohio has become so Trumpish it's actually pretty nauseating,

  7. Back muscles have finally relaxed, and the nausea is gone. A benefit of the awful past year is that I finally lost the fifteen pounds I gained last year when I quit smoking for two months.

I learned in China while trying to marry a Chinese citizen, that anxiety makes me want to eat more; terror makes me lose any desire to eat at all. Helluva diet, eh?
