  2. This was the last breaking news flash I saw last night before turning on my audio book and it really upset me. The only slight consolation was the analysis. Scroll down. The presenter's distinct lack of enthusiasm is refreshing.

  3. Apparently Bernie only won North Dakota. How can they be so stupid? How can sooooooooooooooo many people be soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid?

  4. Looked at mass.gov. Found lots of info on voting, but nothing about write in votes. Searching for write in votes brought up an error page. Will tackle the problem in the morning...or afternoon. I don't expect to be up too early. As Alan suggested, I'll write in Bernie if doing so would count and vote for the Green Party presidential and vice presidential candidates otherwise.

    2. That quote was in reference to write-in votes specifically.

    3. So, are you going to write in Bernie?

    4. When faced with two evils, one must choose neither of them. So, yes, I see no other alternative.

If Hillary were to have Bernie be the VP, then I could tick that box. He would be presiding over the Senate.

  5. There is a welcome home Bernie event at the Burlington airport today, but I have meetings on the other side of the state. :-(

  6. It seems blogspot ate the comments I left last night. Gotta run. But i sent Bernie $15 last night and Tim Canova $10. Out of town all day. Will look up other candidates endorsed by Bernie tonight or tomorrow and send them some love also. Want to make sure Bernie doesn't have any campaign debts. I think it would be wonderful if he were to be a vetter and broker for contributions to candidates of the same stripe--it could be set up as more transparent and people-powered than a PAC, I think. Tomorrow I will re-register as a Green. Also sent Jill Stein $10.

    Alan

P.S.: I see that both my native county and the county where I grew up went for Bernie.

    1. LOL. Very true words.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, they're going to. A Trump vs. HRC campaign is going to be extremely ugly and vicious. I'd much rather watch it and the disastrous presidency that ensues from England. But I'm trapped here.

  8. Looks like switching my party affiliation from Democrat to Green/Rainbow Party of Mass. is fairly simple and can be done online or through the mail, providing I have a valid Mass. non-driver's ID, which I don't. Like a damned fool I let the one I had expire. You have to go to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, which is not open on Saturday, and provide all sorts of proofs of your existence, none of which except Social Security card are actually in my possession. (Mum and Dad keep things like our birth certificates and expired passports and such.) So, I'm going to have to ask for Dad's help, and I hate to bother him, especially asking him to traipse down to the RMV, where there are always long lines. He's not as young or as well as he used to be.

  9. This just in from my Daughter-in-Law who was at the Welcome Home Bernie rally:

We just went to Bernies welcome home rally. We waited for about two hours with our little ones and when he finally arrived we were told he was just going to drive by slowly and wave. Instead he hopped out of his vehicle with more pep than ever. The crowd rushed to shake hands and we attempted as well. [Son] did get to shake his hand and thank him. I however got a touch choked up and had to walk away. But yelled thank you Bernie and sang along to "This land is your land" as he departed. I won't get into the nasty Hillary supporter that showed up. But I will just say she was quoted as saying that she wouldn't mind having trump in office either.... So yeah. A woman may be nominated... But it's not a good woman and she's pretty much just a horrible human being... With horrible supporters. I've never wanted to not vote in my entire life but this is just the pits.

    1. Thank you, Listener. Strangely, reading that article made me feel much better. It wasn't just my wishful thinking. Bernie really should have won California, and in some sense actually did win it . If it can be made to stick that HRC's people deliberately and knowingly committed or facilitated fraud in California, that would make a huge difference. Of course, her Teflon coating makes Ronald Reagan's look like a light spraying with Pam and the media will do their utmost to ignore this story. Her smug mug was all over the television tonight; enough to make a person vomit! And I don't have much hope that the truth of the California vote will gain any traction. But somebody knows. Somebody reported it. California didn't fail Bernie, and that is a tremendous thing.

    2. You're right, Cat. That truly is tremendous. Thanks for mentioning it. ♥

  11. Here's another article that gives more information. It is written by Greg Palast, NY Times best-selling author and freelance writer for the BBC. And it is clear he's not in any candidate's camp.

This pretty much outlines everything you told us about in advance, Alan.

Grant me strength. I'm an election official and I have just about decided I never want to hear about politics ever again. And we have 5 mos. of this mania yet. Disgusting.

  12. Tonight on the CBS Evening News Scott Pelly(sp?) spoke of "Bernie Sanders' zombie campaign. That's just beyond the pale and would be no matter who the candidate, much less one who has done as well as Bernie! I usually do a pretty good job of controlling myself in front of Dad, but that was too much. I shouted at the television. A few moments later the reporter who has, I presume, been covering Bernie spoke of the Clinton camp wanting to win over or acquire or whatnot Bernie's millions of voters and his huge donor base. Well, if they think that more than a small percentage of bernie's voters *or donors* will switch to Clinton, they are, to employ a charmingly crude expression I came across recently, bat shit crazy.

Our cleaning lady told me today she doesn't know what to do, but supposes she'll end up voting for Hillary. I didn't discourage her. It's a terrible wrench finding that the party you've been loyal to your entire life has betrayed you. I don't expect all Bernie supporters to refuse to vote for HRC. For that matter, I don't really expect a large scale switch in voter registration from the DP to the Greens and/or minor parties. There's too much of a fear factor, the sense that we *have to* vote for Hillary or Trump will get in.

I guess one of the reasons I'm so angry and upset, and so ready to change my registration is that I know in my own mind that once she clinched the nomination, it was all over. Trump had the presidency. So I no longer have to worry about lesser evils and voting for the lizards to make sure the wrong lizard didn't get in. She has already lost. We might as well just declare Trump the winner and inaugurate him President-in-Waiting right now. I can't forestall the inevitable by compromising my principles and voting for the lesser evil, so I might as well make a clean break as soon as possible. But I can't ask someone else to do that, or explain my actions and reasons to someone who doesn't know me very well.

  13. What I wanna know is why either party thinks I ought to vote for their person when I am not of either party. How about we have no more parties at all, and let each person's loyalties come from deep within, instead of party "officials"?

    1. That way lies anarchy. However, there is absolutely nothing that says we must be restricted to two major parties. Under Major Parties BTW Wikipedia lists Democratic, Republican, Libertarian and Green.

  14. As it is, though, neither party has earned my vote. But Bernie has.

  15. Sorry I've been writing so much. Haven't been feeling well physically the past couple of days, which made my disappointment and anger over the election results bite all the more keenly.

Also the political situation has brought home to me in spades the stark reality of my personal situation, that is essentially trapped or imprisoned, whichever way you choose to look at it. Most of the time I succeed in living in my mind and largely ignoring the full extent of my physical restrictions. But last night and today, investigating changing party affiliation and considering how much better it would be to move abroad for the duration of Trump's presidency if not longer, I came bang up against them, and the impact hurt.

Finally, the past few days I've been missing Phil something awful. It hasn't been a good few days. Thanks for letting me vent!
