And do click on the link to the donations map for Bernie in the article above! Some of the individual stories--it seems the widow's mite commonly finds its way to Bernie. It's enough to shame me. I will check my consulting bank account, and if the balance permits I will send him a bit more this evening. I'm not sure how my contributions compare to what I sent Howard Dean.
I'm pretty sure I've contributed more to Bernie than to Dean. But I'm better off now than I was a dozen years ago, before Social Security kicked in. And a significant part of my Bernie contributions have come after the Dean campaign had ended.
But I was out knocking on doors for Dean. The dozen years' difference has had the opposite effect there.
In the end, rather than returning to The Poe Shadow, i went back to a favorite, Arthur C. Clark's The Fountains of Paradise.
Was saddened by the death of Muhammad Ali. A young Facebook friend put it rather starkly but appositely: "And the Rapture of 2016 continues." It does seem like an unusual number of celebrities and public figures have been dying, starting with Natalie Cole on New Year's Eve. It's unsettling.
There's no reason I should have known, but I found it interesting that Ali was a Sufi. If I had to fit into a Moslem society, I would be a Sufi, certainly. In some parts of the Moslem world it is not the safest profession, though.
I have much respect for the true mystic, whirling dervish sufis. I am not so outwardly passionate, but at the core we have the same devotion. Look at the poetry of Rumi and Hafiz!

SAN FRANCISCO – Capping his California campaign with an upbeat message, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday surveyed 10,500 cheering supporters under a fog-shrouded Golden Gate Bridge and told them they are his inspiration for a better America.
“As I look out and see so many people who love this nation but know that we can be so much more it gives me enormous optimism about our future,” Sanders said.
The rally here at Crissy Field was the last in a weeks-long campaign march up and down California. Since mid-May, more than 227,000 supporters turned out at 39 rallies from San Diego to Sacramento and from Chico to Cloverdale.
