Fill 'em up!

  1. Woot for Bernie!

    If you should so wish:
Take the pledge to write in Bernie or vote Green [Click] In California write-in votes cast for someone who has not filed as an official write-in candidate will not be counted; so it is in some other states (I don't know how many).

Establishment Democrats and the Next March of Folly [Click] On choosing the only candidate Trump could beat

Top Aide Explains Why Sanders is Fighting the Good Fight [Click] "As long as there's a Democratic primary process going on, people are talking about issues that are important not only to Democrats but to Americans as a whole. As soon as this Democratic primary process is over… we're not going to hear any more talk about the minimum wage, we're not going to hear any more talk about making college affordable or providing healthcare to everybody."

Passing thought: Some people are starting to identify Bernie as the next Ralph Nader; but shouldn't we be talking about HRC being the next Al Gore?

  2. Clinton campaign wrestles with how to attack Trump [Click] She doesn't have a narrative, a decent slogan, a focus or any idea how to deal with Trump, it seems. And her allies have poisoned relations with Bernie supporters--whom they very much need in November. On top of that, who in his or her right mind would be her running mate? This does NOT look good, and I don't think there is time to fix it. Will both the Republican AND Democratic parties collapse this year?

    1. I can't understand why the Democratic Party has invested so heavily in Hillary Clinton. She is unlike-able, stiff as a poker on the campaign trail, a belligerent lover of war and greedy as anyone could ever be. All I can figure out is that the 1% figures she'll maintain their place at the trough. The problem for them is that they either cannot see or will not see the rage of the people. We are done with them and their games and we want things to get better and they won't under either party.

  3. There was no chair throwing at the NV Dem convention according to people who were actually there. There is no chair throwing on any of the video I've seen from several sources. I no longer trust the media and I'd have to see concrete proof that there was any kind of threat made by a Bernie supporter or that any Bernie supporter wrote on the walls. They've been gaslighting Bernie supporters throughout this cycle, so I don't believe it without absolute proof. Just a few minutes ago a woman named Mary commented to me on Facebook, "Oh, you poor bernie victims". To which I replied, "Continue with your sneering superiority, Mary, and you will insure that Hillary loses in November, and it will be on your head."

    1. I figure Bernie is the first New Deal Democrat (my definition of a real Democrat) to run since Walter Mondale, 32 years ago. Probably few if any people under the age of 60 would have any understanding of what the Democratic Party was before the "New Democrat" takeover. I long ago formed the opinion that the "New Democrats" were hardly distinguishable from the old Republicans. Just like "New Labour" in the UK seemed to be Tory Light.

P.S.: I shouldn't be surprised if the person making threatening phone calls to NV Dem officials (if in fact such a thing happened) were a Clinton partisan trying to defame Bernie supporters. Maybe, maybe not. If it happened at all. And if it happened, it should be child's play for the police to discover the offender.

    2. Dear Susan, I agree with every particle you wrote, with every fiber of my being!

  4. WOW! I just looked and with 93% of the vote counted, EVERY county in Oregon has gone for Bernie, with the one exception of Gilliam County in which Hillary got 101 votes and Bernie only got 100 votes. LOL!

    1. Shouldn't Bernie congratulate HRC on her win in Gilliam County? Nah, that would be to catty--but it's fun to contemplate.

  5. Well said, Alan, about HRC being the next Al Gore. Sad, but so true.

  6. Hillary really should step aside. But she won't. She cares more about having power than she does about the well being of the people of this nation.

    1. I think that what she is really pursuing is the illusion of power, not actual power--but she doesn't understand that. Maybe I'm wrong--but maybe I'm right.

  7. I really want Bernie to go Independent in the general in tandem with the Green and with Dr. Jill Stein as his V.P. I think he needs to stay on stage to keep the movement going.

    1. I imagine he has pondered that, but he has said from the beginning that he would not do that…and he's nothing if not consistent. I wish he had started off as an Independent. I believe the movement would have still taken off.

    2. How about he keeps his campaign going, just changes the focus a bit to electing progressives to political office? There is plenty of precedent--look at HRC, who had to keep her 2008 campaign (barely) functional for years until she could solicit enough money to pay her bills. I expect Bernie will not have bills owing, and his supporters will still be willing to kick in for the long-game cause.

    3. I agree. Without kvetching about whether this means "keeping his campaign going" or establishing a new organization analogous to DFA or Obama's Organizing for America.

    4. Interesting!!! Has anyone suggested this concept to Bernie? I could contact one of his staffers. Only…I am not ready for him to throw in the towel. I still want him to win. It is really hard, at age 60, to have to wait yet another 4 to 8 years for real change at the top. Most of the things we are working for will likely not happen in my lifetime now. Bummer.

    5. Okay, guys, hang onto your hats:

I just sent this to Bernie's health aide, who has been instrumental in keeping Bernie informed on the National Nurse Act.

      Dear Sophie,

This is completely off topic and unrelated to the National Nurse Act, except quite indirectly. I am writing this to you because I imagine you would know how to put it into the right hands.

Two wise, older Bernie supporters, one in California, and the other in Chicago, posted tonight on a very small political blog which I frequent, asking if, should (heaven forbid) Bernie not get the nomination, he might be willing to establish a new organization analogous to Dean’s Democracy for America or Obama's Organizing for America, but perhaps more active and created for the purposes of furthering real progressive action and encouraging and supporting progressive candidates.

First things first, of course. Oregon has spoken well, and we are still very desirous of having Bernie as our President!! He has shown profound courage, spoken truth to power, and somehow manages, in the midst of a grueling schedule and lifestyle, to speak straight to the heart of a matter without getting waylaid by rhetoric and emotion in the room. We need him so much as our leader, and the world sees this too. I do hope, deeply, that the broken political system’s failure of leadership won’t result in the wrong person being elected. Yet if that happens, we are going to need true leadership all the more.

Anyway, if you know someone to pass this to, please feel free. If you would rather point me elsewhere, I’m okay with that and would be grateful for any help you can offer.
      Most Warmly,

    6. Great, listener, great! And yes, absolutely, first things first.

  8. Susan, you're absolutely right about HRC supporters being very much like cult members. And from what I've read, HRC fits the profile for a cult leader.

As to write in votes not counting: The other day I saw a comment on an FB thread saying something about Bernie not having made provision, so talk of writing him in was foolish. I didn't know what to make of that. But if you say so, Alan, I accept it. DAMN! I had a lovely little pledge that I wrote up and posted on every Bernie FB page I could find. And here I've been thinking that we Bernie supporters are numerous enough to win him the election on the write in vote, always assuming we stay together and vote as a bloc - never a good assumption. But now it appears that a vote for Bernie might be well and truly a wasted vote. So, what am I gonna do? I WILL NOT vote for HRC!!!

    1. Well, first see how it is in Mass., Cat. If you can write in Bernie and have it counted, fine. Otherwise vote Green--they should have a ballot line in Mass. The California Green Party is disproportionately large, and in the beginning a number of influential members had come from the Socialist Workers Party--so there was a political stain there that did not account for much in other places. I think that has now largely passed. Jill Stein (whom I expect to again be the Green nominee for President) is OK. Not a firebrand orator, but how many people are? She stands for a lot of the same things as Bernie, and has been explicit about not speaking ill of Bernie or his supporters.
