Snow Shadows, soft and bright

20 comments:

  1. Happy belated birthday, Cat! It is still Wednesday here, so maybe not belated!

    No snow here, but there is a significant amount in the mountains and more on the way. We are getting actual RAIN (more than average for the date, they say), with more on the way--a whole series of typical winter storms, making their way down from the Gulf of Alaska.

    P.S.: About three days ago I was contacted by a grade school classmate--hadn't seen him since 6th grade. We had a good e-mail catching up, and I connected him with the class reunion committee so he would get generally reconnected via e-mail. Then yesterday we heard that another classmate, the only one to be hurt badly in Viet Nam, had passed away. What a mixture of feelings...

    2. Alan, it is good that you connected with your old friend when you did, before hearing of your mutual friend's death. It can help to have someone to talk with who remembers the person you are grieving. So sad that he died so young. ♥

    3. He passed away a couple of days ago, so would have been about 69--maybe I wasn't clear. From what people are saying, he must have been doing a lot better since I previously heard (about 20 years ago). His injuries were not life threatening, but certainly life changing. Enough said.

    1. No question about that, Bill. And with the methods they have of monitoring these days, five years is probably the new ten years. At least.

    3. Somehow the comment above displaced the one below starting "Here are a couple of items..." That was posted first, the one above starting "Oh, my--" later as a follow-up.

  3. I wonder if it makes it impossible for puddle to load this page on dialup if I post two photos instead of one out front. I'll have to ask her about that…!

  4. Here are a couple of items from politcalwire.com; what I take away from them is that some people (in particular a certain GOP candidate) and HRC are starting to think that Bernie is someone to be reckoned with.--Alan
    ==================

    Donald Trump’s campaign has reportedly distributed about 20,000 free tickets for an event in Burlington, VT at a theater that seats only about 1,400, the Burlington Free Press reports...

    NBC News: “The Trump campaign’s effort to turn out huge lines of supporters outside the event is no subtle signal to Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.”
    =========================================
    “Hillary Clinton has been on the ground in Nevada since last April. Bernie Sanders only began building up his organization here late in the fall,” Politico reports.

    “But the state that’s been touted as Clinton’s firewall against the Vermont senator in the event he generates any momentum out of the whiter and more liberal states of Iowa and New Hampshire is suddenly looking like it’s in play, potentially opening another unexpected early state front.”

  5. Nope. One or two pics doesn't make much difference.

    The systems that seem to make the most difference are behind the scenes stuff--facebook has a lot of it, and keeps adding more.

  6. I try not to notice this imbecile. But today he doesn't get a pass.

    http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/2016/01/07/trump-campaign-lumbers-into-vermont/78375274/

    From the article:
    Donald Trump says the crowd for his speech Thursday night in Burlington was 25,000.
    Untrue, according to the city police chief.

    About 2,000 people lined up starting at 4:30 a.m. for access to the Flynn Center, Chief Brandon del Pozo told the Burlington Free Press. The Trump campaign instituted a loyalty test at the door and allowed into the 1,400-seat Flynn Center only people who professed support for the candidate.
    Another 700 people, mostly protesters, gathered in City Hall Park to demonstrate.

    That didn't dissuade Trump from making claims on Twitter.
    "We could only get a small fraction of this 25k crowd in," Trump tweeted after his speech.

    [I add: Apparently "he whose name I shall not utter" doesn't care about the mess he makes, or the police hassles he creates or the locals he inconveniences.]

    Also from the article:
    “After repeated attempts to get clarity on how they were managing the situation I supported police taking charge and putting information out directly,” [Mayor] Weinberger said.
    Weinberger also took the Trump campaign to task for turning people away at the door of the Flynn Theater if they were not Trump supporters, after exponentially overbooking the event, distributing more than 20,000 tickets for a venue that seats 1,400.

    “Seeing Mr. Trump himself apparently tweeting that they’re going to take care of their own tonight, that doesn’t sound like the words of a president to me,” Weinberger said. “If he were elected president I’d hope he would understand that he’s got a responsibility to all Americans, whether they agree with him or not.”

  7. I should think the public officials might have revoked the permit for the appearance on the grounds of public nuisance--and maybe safety as well.

    1. I'm betting they will in the future! Mean ol' Rats always sow the seeds of their own destruction.
      The City of Burlington is sending Ratty a bill for the extra personnel required because of how his campaign botched the event. Think they'll see any $?

      Ratty (as I shall refer to him hereafter) left with no more, and likely fewer, votes than he arrived with.
      He lost the vote of all the people who arrived with an open mind and got turned away, and all who love them.
