  3. Thanks, Alan!

    The plume of Lake-effect snow in the photo out front was really something;
there was blue sky on either side of it!

  4. I love living in a small town. These were the first two messages in today's local online forum:

Seeking Lost Dog - Golden Retriever
My dog got out last night around 10:00pm. My husband is out of town and I could only look for him for about an hour with 18month old. I am really worried because his tag only has my husband's cell on it. His name is Sammy and he likes to wander…

    Hi folks,
Last night around 10:30 I heard a lot of howling outside my house.
I went out to see what it was and found a golden retriever inside my four foot fenced in backyard. He is safe and warm. I fed him, gave him treats and he played with my dogs toys. He was very hungry and thirsty. Not sure how he got in my backyard. He looks around 9 or 10 years old. The name on his tag says Sammy. I have been calling the phone number on the tag and it goes to voice mail...
Please email me ASAP if you know who the owner is.

    :-D

  5. First of all, here's the link so you can take a gander at the Ultraplush Throw:

    http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/88854?feat=sr&term=Ultraplush+Throw%2C+PrimaLoft-Filled

Now then, a year or so ago I bought one of these throws. It is really nice, the perfect size for wrapping up in. I'm using it as I type. The fuzzy side is so soft and warm, Nicky Kitty likes being wrapped up in it too.

So, anyway... Though the reason, the trigger escapes my memory now, it occurred to me that this throw would be great for Engelbert on the tour bus. But,sending one to him seemed like a dumb, far fetched idea. Time passed. Winter came around again and with it Ultraplush throw time. Again the idea recurred. Again I rejected it but, about a week before Christmas, I gave in and ordered it, in green, which is his favorite color.

Well, sometime last week, Bean's left a message that the package had been returned to them, and did I want to try again with a different address or should they issue a refund. That was disappointing. No idea why it was returned.

I mulled it all over for a few hours and then, tentatively, messaged Engelbert's son Jason, a Facebook friend I occasionally chit chat with. Told him what happened. Said that if he didn't feel comfortable trusting me I completely understood, but if he would trust me with an address that can accept packages, I'd have them re-send the present.

He responded pretty promptly and, after a brief discussion, he said to send it to him and he'd see that Engelbert got it.

As you can imagine, this response floored me and practically brought me to tears, it was so kind and generous. I had to ask, you understand, but I expected a rebuff. For Jason to offer his own address and undertake to pass the present along touched me. I was so excited that the fellow at Bean's had to ask me to repeat a couple of times. But we got the package in the shipping process that night.

Yesterday afternoon my time - must have been late morning California time - Jason messaged to say the package had arrived. It's probably terribly silly, but I'm very excited and pleased to think that when Engelbert gets back to L.A., Jason will give him the package. Who knows? Maybe he'll even use the throw once in a while.

To thank Jason, I got him a little something from the Vermont Country Store - a pound of their plain chocolate fudge. He doesn't like walnuts. He said he likes pistachios, so I found a jar of those. It's funny, carrying coals to Newcastle, really, because it says right on the listing California pistachios. But, what can you do? I warned him that another package would be arriving in a few days and this one was for him.

Anyway... That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. *grin*

    1. That IS a good story, Cat; thanks for sharing. About fifteen years ago my wife and daughter gave me a sort of fleecy-on-one-side blanket to keep me warm when sacking out on standby at the hospital, and it continues in use for just that purpose. The thought makes it warmer.

  7. Sis is going at 10:00 Wednesday morning for a biopsy of a lump in her breast. This is a lump they bioipsied a few years back but did not remove. And lo and behold, it has grown and changed. If I understand correctly she's going to go ahead and have the lumpectomy in short order.

She is understandably nervous about the biopsy. Please send good vibes.

    1. VERY understandably. Even if benign, which we most sincerely hope it is, it deserves resection if it is changing. Vibes for the best.

  8. Love and light to your sister, Cat.

Another warm melting day. Snow load appears to be about 8 inches now. River hasn't risen yet, either.

And BLESS the UPS guy. Who walked in my package--year six of Downtown Abbey! The road is clear--if you're not driving a great UPS truck that needs a place to turn around. So he left his truck at the main road and walked all the way in.
