The Narrows

Close up of The Narrows: the space between two islands where boats may pass through.
. Note the mirage effect, as the water was not becalmed!
In fact, the waves were splashing hard against that left bank!
But there is much distortion over water.

  2. I am watching and listening to Pope Francis on CSPAN, as he addresses a joint session of Congress. He is speaking to the dignity of people and the responsibility of those who make laws. He is using the examples of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Dorothy Day and Thomas Merton.

It kind of cracks me up that the room is jam-packed and he was greeted with a standing ovation in a room so dedicated to the separation of church and state, and our legislators are listening to what is actually a sermon; and that the Pope, for whom English is not a native language, is speaking very slowly and deliberately. As his sermon builds, I know some there are squirming in their seats. I hope he brings every one of them discomfort and renewed motivation to serve the dignity of the people. Such a good and centered soul.

    1. Wow. Did I really witness a standing ovation in Congress for the golden rule…?

"If we want life, let us give life.
If we want opportunity, let us provide opportunities.
The yardstick that we use for others will be used for us."

VP Joe Biden behind the Pope's right shoulder and Speaker John Boehner behind the Pope's left shoulder seem at times like the masks of comedy and tragedy.

    3. Why does it seem poignant that the dome of Congress currently requires scaffolding? ;-)

  3. On Wednesday, I finally got my driver's license renewed. As today marks the end of the 14 day grace period, it was none too soon. I'd put it off, as I've been busy lately, and had somehow got a contact rash on the underside of my chin and my neck. I hoped the redness would dissipate before I had to have a photo taken which I would have to look at for the next 4 years. I made sure to choose a blouse to wear that I liked the colour of, as well.
I needn't have bothered. The new procedure is to take your eyeglasses off for the photo, and the person says that you may smile, then takes the photo before you actually have time to smile, and it ends up looking like a mug shot. Your blouse doesn't really show, and since it's also a rather blurry photo, the rash didn't matter anyway.
    Just to make it more interesting, the electronic signature machine garbles your handwriting, even on the 8th try. So now pretty much anyone could use your driver's license. Best of all, this new kind of license is called a "Real ID." { ! }

  4. Sooo, who has been following the predictions about 9/28/15? (Google the date and google "blood moon", while you still can.) ;-)

Depending on which prediction you adhere to, apparently either a huge asteroid is going to crash into Earth and we're all going to die, or a giant wave of light radiation is going to arrive and those who are ready will become enlightened.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but it has begun. Facebook just crashed.
    :-D

Anyway, we get to watch a total eclipse late Sunday evening!!! That's the Blood Moon, since it will turn reddish. Dire predictions about that too, of course.

Life is not dull this week!
