  2. Ohhh myyy! Just a brief note before I fall over from exhaustion. We spent 11 hours at Youngest's house today painting in the kitchen. Mah*Sweetie got the rest of the walls painted the chosen soft blue, while I painted two coats of primer onto the cabinets. Mind you, that's not including the cabinet doors which sit read to be primed, in my garage. So after three days spent painting there, we are taking tomorrow off. I go back Monday….

    1. Ah, the joys of being Mum and Dad. When they say full time job, they mean *full time*!

I'm only teasing, Listener. You and your sweetie are marvelous. I hope your kids realize how lucky they are.

  3. Bill, the nonsense about too many planets might just have been Tyson being silly. He is sometimes. But, honestly, I never understood about clearing the orbit. By that criterion, only Mercury and Venus are planets, since all the others have satellites. So, how can they be said to have cleared their orbits?

    1. Aren't Vesta and Pallas differentiated too? And isn't there a fourth large asteroid/minor planet? My mind is going! Can't for the life of me think what it's called.

    2. Satellites are part of the planetary system. They have been cleared from the orbit. Although I don't pretend the have looked at the precise definition of orbit clearing.

As I understand it, Ceres is the only body in the asteroid belt large enough to have core/mantle differentiaion.

    3. And if there ARE three other bodies in the asteroid belt with core-mantle differentiation, then the also qualify as dwarf planets.

  4. Listener, Howard's problem is that he's too loyal. Can't think why he thinks he has to be loyal to Hillary, but as long as she's in the race, he won't support Bernie or strike out on his own. Pity.

    1. You are correct! And I agree it's a pity.

  5. We had a LOT of fun today at Circus Palooza with VT*Grand and her parents. There were acrobats and clowns and during a Magic act, VT*Grand went up on stage to help! :-)

    1. I will have to read that--also I saw a headline about Bernie and O'Malley being confronted with "Black Lives Matter" activists at a meeting. Bet they handled it well. Perhaps I am reading too much into too little, but HRC's campaign seems to be getting shaky--it isn't the anticipated juggernaut. This could be an interesting primary season indeed.

The processor tomato harvest is in full swing out here. We had some notable thunderstorms come through yesterday and today. Off to bed for me--a very demanding weekend, what with lots of ER patients and some considerable instrument problems at the same time. I got both types of things taken care of for my relief.
