  2. Rats. Last night I had a scratchy throat and today I have a potent cold underway.

  3. Hope it's simply a cold, listener. I see from logs at work that influenza has definitely arrived here.

I have had repetitive stress injuries in both hands and forearms, at one time severe and still slightly disabling at times, for about thirty years. Because of the holidays (and people's insistence on too much holiday cheer combined with driving) I had a lot of the sort of work that particularly hurts me. Toward the end of this past week I realized that I seemed to be recovering from the pain both faster and better than usually. This weekend it dawned on me that it must have been from the Chinese-style stretching exercises I took up about two weeks ago--one in particular, which I added around the middle of the first week. Amazing! I shall add a couple more hand and forearm exercises of the same general sort starting tomorrow. I have tried other exercises that worked on the same muscles, but they were all too dangerous--including those from the physical therapists at the hospital. I think I am on track to have the range of motion and freedom of pain that I had forty years ago, albeit not the strength, coordination or balance. (Coordination and balance to come with T'ai Chi later on, perhaps.)

Everyone stay warm, hear? The weatherpersons are saying there is a lot of weather going on in the Northeast. Dry out here--maybe a bit of rain next week, but not much.

P.S.: Almost all the grape vines have been pruned and manured out here, and winter wheat (maybe corn too?) is coming up nicely.
