  1. Dr. Dean would surely rejoice with us over the call from Ally's oncologist at 6:45 this morning:

    CLEAR SCANS!

  2. So much for a gentle change of seasons. It's like somebody flipped a switch, or changed a channel abruptly out of boredom. We went from 70's to 40's with overnight freeze warnings the very next day. I wouldn't mind so much if I didn't still have lots and lots of leaves to rake. Normally I prefer cool, or even cold, weather - just not so much when I have outside work.

  3. Angel has been having a quiet day, mostly sleeping on Mum's bed. Mum said her eyes are glazed, which can't be good.

I do not want Angel to die. When she does it will be even worse than when we lost Binky. At the same time, Angel is so brave and determined, she has kept on keeping on through so much sickness and discomfort, she has bounced back so often that I can't help thinking she deserves to let go and go to sleep. Of course, I won't feel that way when it finally happens, but there it is.

    1. I like to think I will fight to the end, and I respect Angel for doing the same.

  4. I have to wait to hear if I get a second interview at Target. Basically trying not to obsess about it.

The fleas in our household are evil and unrelenting. Both cats and both dogs were already treated with Frontline, and had baths with flea shampoo--but not too soon after the Frontline. I found some sponge-on flea killer and have totally wiped myself out applying that to two dogs and two cats. The cats are going to hide from me for a while, I'm sure.

  6. OK--the new version of Safari browser, combined with the new version of Mac OS X, works with Blogspot.

  7. Something dawned on me today. After my medical adventures back in 2009, including chemo, radiation, and surgery, my poop had gone through cycles of quality, getting very slowly better over time, but still resulting in irritation of the nether regions pretty regularly. Having read about good results of treating overweight with "prebiotic" fiber and "probiotic" bacteria administered in various ways, I decided to give it a try. I figured it couldn't do any harm (the first rule of medicine), and picked up some capsules at Costco. I took one a day for about two months, then went off them during two weeks' vacation and nearly two weeks since. I realized I've had primo poop for two or three months now--zero problems. Of course it might just be coincidence--one must beware of the post hoc propter hoc fallacy--but it might not be, and it's a significant quality of life improvement in exchange for very little money or effort.

I contribute the tale of my experience to the general knowledge fund, in case someone else might be able to profit from it.

    1. It shouldn't be at all surprising if my gut flora were disturbed by the medical treatments I received, and the prebiotic/probiotic treatment is basically like the old (pre-antibiotic) "buttermilk therapy" for summer diarrhea--replace the overgrown undesirable bacteria with benevolent types. Once established they should maintain themselves.

    2. Thank-you, Alan.

I don't think it's coincidence. I say this because after having shingles and being told my immune system runs "low normal" I was feeling tired and weak for about a year. Then I started taking good vitamins and DMG (all made in Vermont at DaVinci Labs) and about 8 months later I was doing great.

I know it takes diligence, Alan. Good for you.
