11th Day of Christmas

  1. Howard is first.

Sorry I'm so late getting here. Didn't have a very good day. The evening was better, thank goodness. With a break to watch an episode of Remington Steel with Sis, I spent it reading Royal Flush, the third Georgiana Rannoch. Just finished it and am heading to bed shortly. Will go back and read Thursday's thread later on in the day.

  2. Yesterday day got swept away by the Waltons. Today we have a helio tree trimmer. A helicopter with a hangydowny boom with a saw and claws attached. Working in aid of the electric company. Clearing the right of way for the power lines. After last summer's outage, a welcome sight. Beau is fascinated.

They just did a tree across the river. And then six guys in the ground crew picked up branches and tossed them off the road. Moved up the hill. If it keeps the electric on next time, I kin wit dat.

    1. Yikes! I don't imagine that practice would fly here in Vermont!

  3. Yikes,Puddle, sounds vicious! But, as you say, if it keeps the electricity on, it's definitely a good thing.

  4. Silly Mr. Outdoor Kitty doesn't seem at all interested in becoming an indoor kitty. Doesn't even enjoy coming in for visits. But he's well fed and very furry and seems happy.

BTW Listener, thank you. Bon Jovi is just the ticket!

    1. Well, Cat, if you need a little inspiration, watch the movie New Year's Eve, as Jon Bon Jovi plays the part of a singer named Jensen.

    2. Hmmm... Sounds like it could be one of Cathleen's favorite movies.

I'm a trifle uncomfortable with a protagonist in her early twenties now, 2013, since she is the age a daughter of mine might be and i have no idear whatsoever what kids that age like or are interested in or know. So, I'm trying to keep things as generic as possible for now. In later drafts more detail will have to be added I suppose.

I recall my sister and her junior high/high school friends making fun of Bon jovi. That would have been about twenty years ago. Hasn't he reinvented himself once or twice since then? Honestly, I only vaguely know his name, never knowingly heard his music. Did see him interviewed once though, and he seemed like a nice guy. I gather he's very successful?

    3. I *only* know of him through the movie. My younger sister (in her 20's 20 years ago) considered Bon Jovi a favourite.

    4. I theoretically could have a granddaughter that age. And I would guess what she might be interested in unless she was a science fiction fan.

Fantasy/alternative history/future history can be easier.

  5. We met the guy about Penny's annuity today. Got everything signed, but don['t know how much the monthly amount will be because we don't have a current statement of the IRA balance -- the 2012 statement is presumably in the mail. Nice to have the paperwork out of the way, though.

    Now to work at last.

  6. ♡ AWESOME ALLY UPDATE!!! ♡
(See new Ally photo out front!)

    Happy New Year!

We have had a great month since the last time I updated.  Ally's medication is going well.  She takes half a pill in the morning and half a pill in the afternoon.  She chews them up, no problem, and washes them down with juice or milk.  We have already noticed her gaining weight.  She is starting to look really good.  We can still see her ribs, but we can't count them individually anymore.  It is nice to hear her say she is hungry all the time.

Christmas was a magical day!  Santa brought her everything she truly wanted (mostly a Vet Kit, followed by a princess dress and a sleeping bag).  She played with her vet kit, and only her vet kit for 2 days straight.  She has moved on to the other toys and games she received, but her favorite is definitely the vet kit.  She did get to use her sleeping bag at Grammie and Grampa's house.  She had a successful sleep over, with no trips to the ER!  Grammie and Grampa were very diligent in making sure she ate, ate, ate...and had lots of fun.  I am pretty sure she did not want to come home.

We also had a nice visit with other family members.  I attempted to teach a few of them how to knit, and Ally entertained everyone.  Again, she didn't want to leave.  We had other adventures over vacation, including LOTS of fun in the snow, Polar Express Hot Cocoa, and a couple of play dates.

My favorite part (and a highlight for Ally) happened this past Wednesday night.  She and I went to the Capitol Center for the Arts and saw the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast.  I would say it was in my top 5 lifetime experiences.  The show itself was fantastic, and watching Ally watch the show was just as entertaining.  I am still smiling about it 2 days later.  I can't wait for us to see it again.  (Check out the picture insert to see the beauty-ful dress Grammie and Grampa got for Ally to wear to the theater.)

We are now back in our regular work/school routine.  Ally is glad to see her Grandparents (I think she was getting tired of me), and make them do her bidding!  (At least, that's what she tells me on the way home from picking her up.)

Ally does have a scan coming up this month, and we have a follow up with the endocrinologist.  We are hoping to coordinate those trips.  We also have 2 birthday parties to attend and Ally turns 6 on the 30th!  I'll be sure to update about scans and her birthday.

We hope that 2013 is as awesome as 2012 was!

  7. Now, prayers cherished for puddle's grandnephew Tanner. Remember Tanner's transplant? Well, he now has leukemia and the first round of chemo didn't work. They took a break over Christmas and now they're going to try again. Poor little guy! ♡
