A Brighter America

  1. Anybody notice that Karl Rove said the GOP has to emulate Howard Dean's fifty-state strategy?

    Election 2012 Map Evolving, but already looks really informative.

    1. I hadn't seen the Rove quote. But he's exactly right on. Any Republican who is paying attention knows that's true. Only the willingness to credit Dean is at all surprising.

    2. It would be nice if the Democratic Party emulated Howard Dean's Fifty State strategy. :P

    3. Cat ~~ To a very real extent, they did. Maybe not quite so obviously as in 2008, when we managed to put Indiana in play, but there was still a lot of effort in a lot of states. And it was the ground game -- Dean's ground game -- that carried the day.

  2. My sincere condolences for Larry's passing, listener. It makes me reflect on how damned lucky I have been.

    1. Thank-you, Alan. And indeed!

      On the good news front: My dearest friend who had the double mastectomy found out today that she does NOT need chemo or radiation...!!! That is SUCH great news!!!

  3. Lucky we all are, Alan! In truth.

    Been getting 20 degree nights, and gorgeous frosts in the morning, almost like snow -- so so pretty. Mid day it gets comfortable, and just now I've got the loveliest soft pink/peach sunset sky.

    Still catching my breath after the election. I spect my Tea Bagging relatives have *awful* hangovers. They've been vewy vewy quiet on facebook. . . . I really don't think its possible to down that much hate and irrationality for that long, and not pay for it in your body.

    1. Ah, puddle, it is loverly to have you here tonight! Your description of the frosts matches what I've been seeing too, and you wrote it so poetically. It's amazing what a comfort a little beauty is at a time like this. So grateful. ♡

  4. We are starting to get a bit of very light rain; more to come over several days, so they say.

    Hearing Romney whine about how the Obama won by giving stuff to the moochers makes me wish to tell him face to face that the fact of the matter is that not enough people were willing to vote for a true-blue, fully fledged member of the parasite class. I am reminded of the old song:

    The Two Bums

    The bum on the rods is hunted down

    As the enemy of mankind;

The other is driven around to his club

    Is feted, wined and dined.

    And they who curse the bum on the rods

    As the essence of all that is bad,

    Will greet the other with a winning smile

    And extend him the hand so glad.

    The bum on the rods is a social flea

Who gets an occasional bite;

    The bum on the plush is a social leech,

    Blood-sucking day and night.

    The bum on the rods is a load so light

    That his weight we scarcely feel,

    But it takes the labor of dozens of men

To furnish the other a meal.

    As long as you sanction the bum on the plush,

    The other will always be there,

    But rid yourself of the bum on the plush

    And the other will disappear.

    Then make an intelligent, organized kick,

    Get rid of the weights that crush;

Don’t worry about the bum on the rods,

    Get rid of the bum on the plush!
