Chivalry

To give you an idea of the care and detail that went in to the making of this Circus Train,
note the poster above and Circus Train piece below.

  1. Howard Dean goes beyond chivalry
    speaking truth to power.

But you've got to admit that the
Circus theme fits this election season!

  2. Circus indeed, with some melodrama and morality play tossed in! I feel for the folks in the "swing" states; evidently they are being bombarded with political advertising. I don't recall that anyone has so much as sent me a postcard (well, a very few asking for money--none on any issues). Television advertising doesn't reach me.

listener--glad your hubby escaped from his adventure. One of the more interesting things I noticed about our new hybrid is that the cruise control REALLY works going down long grades, where a conventional cruise control lets the car run away.

Friday night/Sat. morning at the hospital was pretty easy; the following night/morning was a killer. But I was able to get two (slightly separated) hours' quality sleep in the afternoon before things got real busy again. Not hard driving home. And now to bed--later than I probably should, but earlier than I usually do.

Romney's Lead with Older Voters Evaporates
The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll "indicates that during the past two weeks -- since just after the Democratic National Convention -- support for Romney among Americans age 60 and older has crumbled, from a 20-point lead over President Obama to less than 4 points."

"Romney's double-digit advantages among older voters on the issues of healthcare and Medicare -- the nation's health insurance program for those over 65 and the disabled -- also have evaporated, and Obama has begun to build an advantage in both areas."

Obama Keeps Lead as Undecided Voters Shrink
A new Politico/GWU Battleground poll finds President Obama leading Mitt Romney by three points among likely voters, 50% to 47%.

Key finding: "The universe of voters who might change their mind also has shrunk significantly. One in five supporting a candidate said they'd consider someone else last month. Now it's closer to one in 10. Regardless of who they're supporting, 60 percent now expect Obama to win."

A new Zogby Poll shows Obama with an eight point lead nationally, 49% to 41%.

A new Angus-Reid poll finds Obama ahead by two points, 48% to 46%.

Can You Feel The Pain If You Don’t Care?
A very interesting take on Romney’s Plan A and Plan B from TPM Reader DE …
I have a different take on the Plan A, Plan B discussion regarding the Romney campaign. I agree with LF that there really is no plan B, but I also think that the Romney campaign miscalibrated or failed to properly execute their own Plan A.

    How’s Medicare Playing?
The latest polling shows Obama with a sizable lead over Romney on the question of who would better handle Medicare.

  4. One degree from a frost this a.m. though a neighbor two blocks away and on the other side of the river did get a light frost! Only forties were predicted, so half way through the night put another quilt on the bed, and then got into my warm fuzzy about an hour later.

  5. Alan! So glad you got through that difficult shift. While reading about your two slightly separated hours of sleep I realised I was imagining this taking place in the chaplain call room I used to sleep/nap in. It's still with me.

Hearty thanks for the good morning news from the polls. The folks in the Obama camp must be thrilled! But of course, they really have Romney and his staff to thank. ;-)

The Amaerican people are flexing their backbone. Funny how much backbone is connected to ear. ;-)

  6. It was chilly here this morning too, puddle, but no first. I did put the stove on for a short time, and the kitties were very grateful.=^. .^=

  7. Today's report said:
"Mostly cloudy in the morning, then partly cloudy. High of 63F. Winds from the SSW at 5 to 10 mph."

Another said "10%" chance of showers.

So I waited until it hit 60F and got ready to go out and put the last of the gardens to bed. Looked out and it was pouring rain!

What is wrong with this picture?

    1. Failure to realize that the definition of "shower" is "a brief period of pouring rain." It meant "a light rain" when I was a kid, but language changes.

    2. Not a failure of understanding the term, Bill. When I lived in Erie, PA a 10% chance of rain meant it would rain 10% of the day. But here it usually takes a 30-40% chance of rain for it to materialise!

  8. Now the sun's out and it's still raining.

  10. Dept. of How Time Passes:

Somewhat over 30 years ago I opened a checking account at Oak Park Bank and Trust. Which was bought by First National Bank of Chicago. Which, after it bought National Bank of Detroit became First Chicago NBD. which was bought by Bank One. Which ws bought by Chase, where my account remains.

Today, on my way home from having my teeth cleaned, I passed s vacant lot with the sing, "Future home of Oak Park Bank and Trust Co."

  11. listener, I used to make and sell miniatures. Still love 'em to this day. Thanks for the picture, and especially the photo of the full-size wagon. Appreciate the detail of the miniature. Thanks for posting a photo of something I'd otherwise probably never see.

  12. Mah*Sweetie's home! All's right with the world. :-)

Re the Circus photos...more are coming! Susan and puddle both have made miniatures, then? Wow! I'm excited for you to see what's coming. The photos I have don't even show 10% of what's there. It's AMAZING!!!

  13. I am impressed with the miniatures also. I am also impressed with this news note from another Romney fundraiser; it seems neither Robber Baron High School nor Harvard required their graduates to acquire an understanding of elementary physics:

Romney Wonders Why Airplane Windows Don't Open
The Los Angeles Times reports Mitt Romney spoke about the concern he had for his wife when her plane had to make an emergency landing Friday because of an electrical malfunction.

Said Romney: "I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don't think she knows just how worried some of us were. When you have a fire in an aircraft, there's no place to go, exactly, there's no -- and you can't find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don't open. I don't know why they don't do that. It's a real problem. So it's very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she's safe and sound."

    ======================
The fact that the comment was made at a fund raiser probably explains why no one told him the reason the windows don't open is because it is so difficult to gather that much hamburger spread over twenty miles of the countryside. I guess he can wave goodbye to the votes of people who learned their grade school physics lessons... That should be a few more percent added to the 47 percent.

    1. That ... Is ... Pretty ... Dumb. And so is admitting it at a fund raiser.
There goes the airline employees votes! LOL!

  14. Okay, here is an old photo of the Circus Train Building! There is now a carousel between the two ends of the building and more landscaping. Realise that the figures are only 17" high (or less) and the train fills the length of the building!! There are over 4000 pieces in a little over 500 ft.
