Thought Balloon Caption?

  1. Howard's *my* guy. No question!

Alas, fell to sleep early in the SOTU. Been getting some terrific press, though, so I'm glad. I'm also glad that the rePublicans are having an impossible time finding someone sane. . . . and that's just *sad*. . . . That they can't. And that I'm glad.

Just acetaminophen tonight. Will see, but I'm not actually worried.

  2. I LIKED this from one of my fav blogs, Balloon Juice:

    SOTU Reaction

    by John Cole

I gotta say, every time I get some one on one time with that guy, which is basically what the SOTU is- an opportunity for the President to speak to America, I just want to vote for him early and often. The contrast between Obama and the crowd of miscreants in the GOP running to replace him is just striking.

One of the things I found interesting is that if you are a political junkie, you will find the speech from Obama a little bit feistier than those who are casual observers of the political process. I caught the references to Solyndra and telling the Republicans to back off on that nonsense, I got the DADT references, and so forth.

But most of all, every time I hear him speak, I am still aware of all the things I disagree with him on, but think “That is a good man doing what he thinks is best.” That is really all you can ask for from someone, because as far as I can tell, I’m the only one who agrees with me 100% of the time. And as you all know, if you give me a week, I’ll disagree with myself.

We really don’t deserve him. We really don’t.

So, Alan, are you reading it now? How is it? I've been wanting to have a look.
    =============
No, I just happened to see it mentioned on politicalwire.com

Glad to hear the acetaminophen did the job, puddle. No need to be a hero, but also no need for a 12-gauge when a 410 will do. (Hmmm....an analogy from my youth...)

Had some problems with my DSL connection--finally figured out to cure it by turning off the modem and computer for half a minute, then turning on the modem and waiting for it to go through its startup routine, then turning the computer back on.

I wouldn't make fun of a nice kitty with a balloon caption or otherwise; but something respectful might be OK. Just fine without, I think.

I'm getting through The Pursued and it is very promising. Clues and perhaps pseudo-clues and probably unrecognized clues and certainly inscrutable clues abound. Darned if I can figure out what is going to happen. The primary crime is revealed very early on, and the mechanism and nature of the revenge is the question. I doubt the mother in law is likely to plant that nice new hatchet in her son-in-law's skull, but it seems likely to somehow play a role... as does the commuter rail line just behind the house and the son-in-law's bibulousness.

  5. Alan, thanks! And I loved the analogy, after reading up on it, lol! http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-480468.html

Worked again last night, so I guess that's the new path. However, Beau only responds to the medicine syringe as a up the stairs to bed signal, so I guess I'm stuck with that, grin. For a while anyways.

Trubbled sleep though: just before bed, read a comment from my sister on fb, in response to a friend of hers in Florida about the SOTU speech. Teabagger. But my sister's comment made me sad: What I kept thinking was if this is what he wanted to do, why hasn't he already done it? This is a woman I persuaded to vote for Howard Dean in 2004. How is it possible to be so deeply asleep? Poo. I didn't say anything last night, thought about a private email, let that go. Guess I'll just swallow my disappointment. I feel utterly achingly sad.

  6. puddle, I share your ache about all this political, especially how little the average person comprehends about what it takes to get anything done in DC these days. Obama is a good man doing the best that he can. I remember how difficult it was for Jimmy Carter to get things done, and he took the "my way or the highway" approach with Congress, to a significant extent. When Congress feels snubbed they dig in their heels even more!

Mah*Sweetie mentioned last night during the State of the Union Address that President Obama seemed “off his game” since he was tripping over some words. I replied, "Who knows what kind of day he’s had?” Well, now we know. He had authorised a rescue mission into Somalia to free two hostages ~ an American and a Dane ~ because the American’s health was starting to deteriorate. The mission was still going on during the Address, though by then the hostages were safe and the President knew that. He had to wait for the mission to be completed, though, and called the American hostage’s father immediately after giving the Address. Sadly, the hope had been to capture the hostage takers alive, but there were explosives around and in the end the nine hostage takers were killed. The hostages are okay and so are those who did the mission.

  7. The name of the Kitty out front is "Fuzzy Bear." His name was originally Merridoc (and his siblings were Pippin, Frodo and Samwise). Their mother was hit by a car and died when they were two weeks old. So the owner kept two and fed and cuddled Frodo and Samwise 'round the clock, while Wildlife*Biologist*Son and his then-girlfriend (now wife) did the same for Merridoc and Pippin.

You may recall that Merridoc and Pippin and their older comrad, Strider, lived together and when Son lived in NC they managed to push out the screen on the third floor window and all jump out and escape. All were found, but Pippin had busted a hind leg in the fall. Later, Pippin and Strider escaped when someone came to feed them (while Son was away) and Pippin was never found. It is assumed that a fisher cat got him. :-( Strider met a similar fate last year, likely by a gray fox. Merridoc, nee Fuzzy Bear, was definitely the more challenged of the batch of kitties. He never seemed to win any spat and he was always in need of reassurance. Nonetheless, he outlasted his more adventuresome pals, and that is to be commended.

Knowing him as I do, he is likely thinking in that photo, "I could really use some more rubs. How about putting the camera down, and starting by scritching my ears?" Which is exactly what I did.

  9. BTW, that was supposed to read "all things political" not "all this political." Was scurrying off to work...filled in for a coworker who needed to sit with a friend whose husband was having surgery [the friend had helped her through breast cancer and her husband's death]. Sure would have been a good day to curl up and moan, feeling as I do with this miserable cold. Temp of 100.5F overnight, upper 99's this morning, but 100.2F as I left for work. And I'm the one who advocates for people to stay home when they're sick. I just felt she had a greater need than mine. I don't regret it. It sure is good to sit down again, though.

The way I read the face was, "So just who do you think *you* are?" Maybe this cat needs reassurance, but at the moment he looks very confident of his own superiority. To a mere human, at least.
