  2. Reposting from after hours on the last thread...regarding my Saturday...

Am home from QUITE a full day!!

Got up early and worked at the Library. My regular coworker was off playing harp at a wedding, so I worked with our best sub. We had the busiest Saturday I can recall, plus two power surges that made us have to reboot the computers. Son*in*Maine came with two of our granddaughters and visited the Library! They were delayed by a traffic jam (which seldom happens in VT). He had to be at our house to receive a conference call 15 minutes after the Library closed, and needed me to "ride herd." So of course people stayed up to the last minute and afterward!

Got home and Son greets me at the door to tell me the electricity is out His cell phone doesn't work from there and our downstairs phones *being wireless* aren't working. I bounded up the stairs and discovered one land line working...to his immense relief as he'd given the folks our phone number as a backup. The conference call began with him unable to access the internet, but the lights came back on about half way through and we were up and running.

Meanwhile all day long Hubby and another Son of ours were out on Lake Champlain in a big sailing race...in numerous downpours!!

Long story short, a race that often takes 4 hours took 9 1/2 today. Hubby never got to see Son*in*Maine and our granddaughters. But they WON the race! Hubby got to the dock just in time to dash off and meet me at the Playhouse as we had tickets for this evening. We arrived from opposite directions and drove into the parking lot only 2 cars apart! LOL! Mind you, he arrived with totally soaked jeans, socks and sneakers. So I met him with a bag of nice looking dry clothes and a suit jacket. He changed in the Men's Room, then joined me at our seats (Row G, on the aisle). Just as he sat down, the play began! LOL!

It gets better. This wildly strange day concluded with a FABULOUS play, and during the first act a BAT went flying all over the theatre! That added some real excitement, to be sure. Even so, the cast never missed a beat. It was an AWESOME presentation of The Spelling Bee, which received a standing ovation. SWEET!

  3. Forgot to mention that Son*in*Maine aka "Wildlife*Biologist*Son" cleaned out our two used birdboxes today because he saw a BLUEBIRD sitting on one!! He also saw that the third birdbox has an active Wren nest (apparently they're on to a second brood already!).

  4. Cat--

A husband can be not just a pill, but hurtful. At least at times. Believe me, I know.

But on a much brighter note, that looks like a dandy phonograph! I agree that stacking 78's wouldn't be a very bright idea; stacking came with 45's and 33 1/3's.

    listener--eventful day indeed!

We went up to San Mateo and met with Naomi to go apartment hunting near her new place of employment. (I foolishly forgot a hat and didn't put sunscreen on until I was already sunburnt.) We had some time before the first appointment Naomi had made (at 1:00 PM) so looked at some other places. One of the apartments available at the 1:00 PM place looked good to all of us, and the location was super (especially for someone without a car): right close to a shopping mall, supermarket (not the biggest or least expensive, but OK), banks, a node for several bus lines (including two going to her place of work) and train station that also connects a couple of stations down to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). So we/she took it. Online reviews were mixed, but recent ones are generally good and many of the others seemed to be from whiners. I was worried we wouldn't have enough time, but we did, and to spare. We will go up and help her to move over a couple of weekends. (BTW, the bus Naomi commutes on took her past the apartment complex twice a day; once she saw some disreputable looking kids hanging out there, but not recently. Probably a chance occurrence.)

  5. 103 degrees predicted for today, and it feels like it will happen. Not a day to work outside in midafternoon...

87 perdicted here but very, very humid. Thunderstorms predicted. We've already had one in the early morning hours.

  7. 83ยบ There's a tiny little storm on radar. Guess where it is? Right on my head, lol!

  8. Ground strike about a half a block away, right in front of my door. Could actually HEAR the sizzle and crackle. woowee. . . .

  9. YIKES! What a day! Glad you and Hubby survived.

  10. YOW!!! I presume, though, you're OK? Not fried to a frazzle?

  11. The morning was pleasant, but the afternoon has been increasingly hot and humid. I finally had to turn on the AC. It definitely helps. Kitty seems much happier too.

  12. Well, we're actually having 70's today. I went out and gardened and am taking a food break before heading back out to do more. We so rarely get temps above 93 degrees that we have never had an air conditioner. I'd sure like the humidity to drop, though. Take care everybody; drinks lots of water. And puddle...enjoy some lightning for me. I love a good thunderstorm.

  13. I used to enjoy thunderstorms until our house was hit by lightning and the fire department had to be called. From then on I've been afraid of lightning strikes. Don't much enjoy thunder either. Guess I'm growing timid in my old age.

  14. Lol! Trade you *my* old age for *your* old age. . . .

  15. Yanno? I think there's something terribly wrong with Micro$oft ~~ I let it go to automatic updates to avoid the annoying little messages. Last night as I shut down, it installed 44 updates. Today, when I rebooted, it installed 13 more. What kind of software needs repair at that rate?

I suspect these are all the updates that have accumulated since SP3 was introduced. Remember that what you installed was the original SP3 without any of the subsequent tweaks.

Incidentally, we seem to have missed the thunderstorms. Day has been sunny and breezy. Quite pleasant on the porch, although rather warmish with all the head-generating equipment in my office.

  18. Keep an eye on your weather, Renee.
Hail possible in a little over an hour from now.
    Take care!

  19. Given what happened, Cat, I can understand the feeling of impending doom you might encounter when there's lightning about. Of course, it rarely strikes in the same place, so you are safer than you used to be when you liked lightning.

  20. Funny thing: I jumped, the cat jumped, but not even a flicker in the electricity. . . . Go figure.

  21. You could be right. I've got them turned off for the time being (slows surfing to a crawl), will turn them on just before I go to bed, and let them work all night, lol!

  22. Considering that you seem a whole lot sprier and more tuned in than I am, I'd definitely consider it. *grin*

  23. I think there must be a moral in there, somewhere, listener. Like lightning and be unsafe. Dislike lightning and be safe.

Anyway, thanks for the words of encouragement.

  24. What kind of software? Microsoft software.

Seriously, it will probably take some time to get all the updates and - pardon my French - crap. What you describe doesn't sound unusual. You might also want to keep an eye on the auto update function. Sometimes having it turned on causes other problems.
