Second Puzzle of the Week

  1. Breaking News:
British police arrest Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct

“Several emails released by the U.S. Justice Department showed Epstein's correspondence with Andrew's aide David Stern and suggest the royal may have planned to use his role as a special U.K. representative for trade and investment to further his own business interests.”

    Today is Andrew’s 66th Birthday.

    1. Sheesh. I never realized Randy Andy's only four years older than myself. Hellova birthday present. But then, he earned it.

    2. He's 4 years younger than I am. Too much entitlement in a royal's lifestyle. Too much entitlement in the lives of most of the dudes involved.

    3. I donno. Ann, Charles and Edward aren't like that, and never were. It's a combination of character - or lack thereof - and possibilities? opportunities? you're exposed to. Some people are just weak, God help them. Mind you, weakness of character does *not* absolve a person of culpability! But it does explain immoral behavior and repeat offenses to some extent.

For instance, the current occupant of the White House is rotten through and through, and always was. I heard Dr. John Gartner on The Daily Beast Podcast a while back talk about how the young Donald Trump threw rocks at a neighbor baby set out in its pram for its daily airing. Can't you just picture it? Even as a child he was a monster.

    1. Excellent. Do you think the Vermont delegation could bring it to D.C.?

  4. When they had to change planes, Noem fired a pilot because (get this) her blanket was left on the first plane.
It gets better. They had to rehire the pilot when they realised they had no one else to fly the group home.

~ This, thanks to Stephen Colbert, made my day!

  5. Did you all see the grifter in chief snatched 10 Billion dollars for his Board of Peace? He will have full control of that money and can spend it as he pleases. I wonder if there will be anything but dust and a few forgotten nickles in the Treasury once he is done stealing all he can.
But for tonight I'm just settling in with a game of "yarn chicken". That is, I still have 12 rows to knit and I'm not at all sure I have enough yarn to finish that. If I run out of yarn I lose. If I finish with even an inch of yarn left over I win. Wish me luck. Susan

    2. The Vatican declined to anti up the required billion for a permanent seat on the Board of Peace and, indeed, called it a colonialist enterprise they wanted nothing to do with. I'm sorry. They would have been a moderating influence. At the same time, I'm very pleased they called the wretched thing what it is and walked away from it.

I saw a comment on Facebook that said, if memory serves, "Why? Doesn't the Vatican want peace?" I couldn't work out if the commenter was a smartass or extraordinarily naΓ―ve.

What sort of yarn do you usually knit with? I have a friend who will only use fine wool. My Mom used regular acrylic.

    4. Yes, I'm incensed about the $10 Billion out of our pockets for his pet scheme and pocket. Congress is supposed to decide how our money gets spent. I imagine there will be a court case about this.

    5. Eventually, probably. /sigh/ There's going to be an awful lot of clearing up to do once Trump and Co. are gone.

  7. Thinking of you, nordy. ❤️ Hoping you're okay and we'll hear from you soon.

  8. From Susan. I knit the most with plain old acrylic yarn, and I'm not above buying it in the thrift store. I won yarn chicken! When my project was done I had a leftover ball about the size of a golf ball. Yes, I'm concerned about nordy too. Hope she is well and just having some quiet time.

  10. As for myself, I'm not around a whole lot because of my poor and therefore erratic sleep. When awake, I'm veg'ing out in front of YouTube or else either playing on FunTrivia or researching and writing quizzes, though not as much of the last lately as I would like.

I am currently reading Cervantes' last novel, The Trials of Persiles and Sigismunda and working on an overview quiz on it. I remember enjoying it on reading it in my late teens, but that was a different, older translation, and I was less critical. It kind of irritates me now, with all its interpellated tales. Not to mention, the ongoing pretense of our hero and heroine being siblings named Periandro and Auristela is tiresome... and I'm only in Book Two out of four. Still, it is nice to have a brake from this dreadful world we live in. And, at the end, I'll have a quiz.

    1. I certainly understand the struggle of not enough sleep. And, for the at matter, needing an escape from national news.
How about we all make an attempt to check in and post something pleasant more often? I try to do that with the photos out front, too.
