  2. US strikes Venezuela and says its leader, Maduro, has been captured and flown out of the country

AP: The United States hit Venezuela with a “large-scale strike” early Saturday and said its president, Nicolás Maduro, had been captured and flown out of the country after months of stepped-up pressure by Washington — an extraordinary nighttime operation announced by President Donald Trump on social media hours after the attack.

Multiple explosions rang out and low-flying aircraft swept through Caracas, the capital, as Maduro’s government immediately accused the United States of attacking civilian and military installations. The Venezuelan government called it an “imperialist attack” and urged citizens to take to the streets.

It was not immediately clear who was running the country, and Maduro’s whereabouts were not immediately known. Trump announced the developments on Truth Social shortly after 4:30 a.m. ET. Under Venezuelan law the vice president, Delcy RodrĂguez, would take power. There was no confirmation that had happened, though she did issue a statement after the strike.

“We do not know the whereabouts of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores,” Rodriguez said. “We demand proof of life.”

Maduro, Trump said, “has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow.” He set a news conference for later Saturday morning. -- nordy

    2. Convenient, it happening on a weekend.

I also heard this morning that Bondi has announced Pres. Meduro and his wife have been indicted on drug charges. Funny, didn't Trump pardon a former president of a South American country, who had been convicted on just such charges? Oh, wait. That conviction was under a Democratic president; so, obviously, it was worthless.

Dear God, but I HATE Donald Trump!

  3. This is the end result of those in authority letting him get away with any obscenity he chooses. He tramples the law, the Constitutions and human decency and HE IS ALLOWED TO. His enablers, and those who have willfully ignored his lawlessness are equally to blame. Susan

  4. Utterly unconscionable.
    We need creative solutions, now.
We won’t have real elections by November.

Every Jewish person I know is outraged at what Netanyahu and Israel are doing to Palestinians. Those who claim antisemitism could be Jewish fundamentalists.

Not Jewish fundamentalism, Zionism. From what I understand all Jews who are serious about their faith, especially fundamentalists, hate and oppose Zionism, because it flies in the face of what Judaism teaches. Thanks to the strength of the Zionist lobby, including a lot of Evangelical Christians, Americans have been conditioned to identify Judaism with Zionism, which greatly strengthens the accusation of antisemitism as a weapon.

  6. US plans to ‘run’ Venezuela and tap its oil reserves, Trump says, after operation to oust Maduro

AP: Hours after an audacious military operation that plucked leader Nicolás Maduro from power and removed him from the country, President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States would run Venezuela at least temporarily and tap its vast oil reserves to sell to other nations. -- nordy

The dramatic action capped an intensive Trump administration pressure campaign on the South American nation and its autocratic leader and months of secret planning resulting in the most assertive American action to achieve regime change since the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
