On Wednesday we went down to Weston, Vermont (a couple hours SSE) to attend a play by Weston Theater Company called "A Distinct Society." The setting is the Haskell Public Library that straddles the Vermont - Quebec border and has long been a meeting place of families who cannot cross into the others' country. A very moving play that underscores the issues this makes for loved ones.
The entrance to the actual building is on the Vermont side, and there has long been an understanding that Canadians (and others) may proceed to that entrance if they stay on the designated sidewalk that runs directly beside the building. But these days, with the new restrictions on border crossings, Canadians (and others) have been banned from use of the walkway. So! The Library is altering its historic building, turning a window into a door on the Canadian side! 👍. Never let the cruel people win!
PS: There is actually an Opera House on the second floor!
Also... Yes, Cat (since I bet you're wondering), we did set foot inside the Vermont Country Store while in Weston. I bought a pair of Darn Tough socks that have rabbits on them!
Seriously, though, what mean, small people, not allowing Canadians to use a traditionally open path.
You know, C.S. Lewis talks about how evil can be very petty. I mean, the big, showy acts of cruelty, malice and the like get the attention, but the seemingly small things are even more invidious.
Somewhat to my surprise, last night's sleep study showed that I have significant sleep apnea. I apent part of the night on a CPAP machine. The mask didn't seem particularly comfortasble for someone sleeping on their side and I'm not sure I slept better overall. But we'll see.
Interesting. I'll be closely following your experiences with the CPAP.
While in the hospital this spring, I was frequently woken by nurses who were concerned about my breathing. I was also constantly asked if I snored or had sleep apnea. To the best of my knowledge I don't, but the monitor clearly showed a problem with my breathing on a regular basis. Hence my interest in your sleep study and follow-on.
Now I've seen everything. Seattle Times: Pacific Northwest lawmakers expressed outrage and demanded answers from the Trump administration about two firefighters who were arrested Wednesday by federal law enforcement agents at the Bear Gulch fire on the Olympic Peninsula. ... The firefighters went to their assigned location for the day Wednesday, where they were soon met by federal agents who lined firefighters up and demanded identification before arresting two, according to two firefighters interviewed by The Seattle Times and video and photos from the scene. The confrontation lasted roughly three hours. Firefighters described being denied the opportunity to say goodbye to the detained crew members, and being told not to take video. -- nordy
When I subscribed, there were a number of things I opted not to engage or sign up for, and I began to think I didn't get in. However, then I was able to post. So the process is not intuitive, but it works.
He's talking about ending vaccines in a few months. So get your Covid shots SOON! We are waiting for the shots to show up at the pharmacy...but have appts for September 8th (assuming the shots arrive)!
I love that beautiful farmhouse (out front) for how well kept and colour coordinated it is!

LOL How have you managed all this time without Darn Tough socks with rabbits on them? Now your life is complete!

Will do. I'm asking for comments on Facebook.
DeleteAlmst immediate response from a friend on Facebook. There are different types of masks, which I didn't know before.
DeleteW.A., my Youngest has been using a CPAP machine for decades. I will see him on Saturday. Do you have any questions I might ask of him?

ReplyDeleteCould they possibly so have hit rock bottom and with nowhere lower to go they are now moving upward toward a conscience?
DeleteOf course traditional right wing Republicans love Israel, while white supremacist Republicans hate Israel. There was bound to be friction there.

Meanwhile, presumably, the fire raged on.

DeleteThat's odd. You show up as a subscriber. Thank you BTW. I use Substack mainly on the computer, though I have the IOS app too.
DeleteI subscribed, as you saw.

ReplyDelete13 hours ago...
Just spoke with my CDC sources they were in tears.
RFK Jr. reportedly told CDC staff: “Follow my vaccine orders or be fired and blacklisted.” He’s placed allies in key positions to enforce this.
This is a direct attack on public health.
