Supermoon & Leonid Meteor Shower

CNN: November’s full moon, otherwise known as the beaver moon, will shine bright in the sky on Friday as the last supermoon of the year.

For sky-gazers observing the golden orb this weekend, the Leonid meteor shower could make for a dazzling bonus feature as it reaches its peak on Saturday night into early Sunday, according to the American Meteor Society.

The beaver moon — named as a nod to that animal’s hibernation and thicker coats this time of year — will reach the crest of its full phase at 4:29 p.m. ET Friday, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. But the moon will appear full to the naked eye about a day before and after its peak, said Noah Petro, chief of NASA’s Planetary Geology, Geophysics and Geochemistry Laboratory.

    1. I've been hearing about this. Twitter was an insane mishmash of commentary very difficult to follow. I only ever went there to read one person's excellent weather reports. I got off altogether when Musk took over. Facebook is enough for me. I don't plan to jump to BlueSky unless someone tells me it's not crazy fast paced like Twitter was. At lest with Facebook, I can limit my page to just my family and friends (I have about 100, not the thousands many have!), and it's reasonable.

    1. Geez Louise! If I still had kids at home, I'd be home schooling them, even if I hadn't planned to.
It makes me glad my sensitive granddaughter (age 15) has chosen a program this year whereby she works all from home on her studies, and just goes in to the school for extra-curriculars.

  5. I find myself wondering when Trump will have his next stroke. Strokes (even "silent" strokes) are known to potentiate symptomatic Alzheimer's Disease, and ever since he made that evening rush to Walter Reed Medical Center I have suspected it was due to a [minor] stroke. The proffered explanation was such obvious rubbish that I am still impressed by it; dropping a typewriter onto his foot, or even a flare-up of a hangnail, would be far more credible.

    2. Yup...but it sounds like it would mostly be on the western side of upstate NY, and be Lake Effect snow off Lake Ontario. The question for me is whether we'll also get some Lake Effect snow off Lake Champlain...which would land in my yard for sure. I'm ready to welcome snow!! ☃️ Only...I'd like to have my snow tires on first, and the appointment isn't until the 27th. Ha!
