Oops--misplaced next item. I saw that story about antibiotic-resistant streptococci in Japan; don't know what to make of it. Overall number of cases not terribly high, seems to be related to decreased use of face masks. Nasty stuff. I hadn't heard a lot about it in the US in recent years, and was under the impression that it was being brought under control, like Clostridium difficile. ----Alan
This kind of made me sit up and take notice, as Strep is going around at our family's place in Maine. While Daughter had to be in Ireland on business, youngest grand (4) came down with it. She reacted to the first two antibiotics they tried (hives) but she came through it. Fortunately, with Mom away, she still had "staff" since PhD*Son and his RN wife and two high school age daughters live there too.
My father must have had multiple strep throat infections before penicillin, which led to scarlet fever and rheumatic fever. They let him up out of bed when he felt recovered from rheumatic fever, but they should have kept him in bed for a year to prevent heart damage, which ultimately led to his death almost forty years later. ----Alan
Green Party: Gaza Needs a Ceasefire, not a Pier - Click They're right, of course. Damn, I wish it weren't so vital to vote for Biden! I'd really rather vote for the Green Party, though IMO Stine is nowhere as strong a candidate as Hawkins. It's just as well Hawkins isn't running this year - the temptation will be less.
Some year soon, once our nation gets its legs under it again, we'll have the leeway to vote for the Green Party and maybe have 5 names on the ballot to choose from. First things first.
The way the US government is set up, there will always effectively be just two choices for president. But that doesn't have to be the current two parties.
I think we can foresee the demise of the GOP in the near future; my theory is that the Democratic Party will bifurcate into center-left and center-right. ----Alan
