  2. The photo out front was taken in early December, ahead of the snow we now have.

    1. And yet, this isn't unusually cold for Chicago. It's been decades, but I remember a couple of years it hit -26F.

  4. Trump Instantly LOSES IT at DAY 1 of E. Jean Carroll damages Trial [Click] Not a lot I haven’t heard in other posts I linked here, except for a security measure: the jurors are ordered to use aliases in conversation with one another, and warned that using their own names could result in their deaths.

    1. And also to never tell friends or family members that they are involved in this case for the same reason.

I sent a Messenger message to puddle’s son “Cooter” so he’d have an easy avenue of communication with me while she is with him. I have no idear if he ever checks Messenger, though, so we’ll see. He also has my email address through ouddke’s account.
Of course, it may be that once she’s settled we’ll hear from her directly. 🤞

  7. 11AM, overcast burning off, predicted high 64F; lunch, dentist, then gardening--we might be able to finish the front yard pruning.

  9. James Carville: Does Trump Have Syphilis? [Click] Like Hitler and Al Capone? It had occurred to me, but I had discounted it because of the availability of antibiotics. Then again, I hadn't seen (or noticed) photos of the sores.

P.S.: How Mr. Carville thinks "No Labels" will throw the election without a ballot line escapes me. And he also confuses gonorrhea ("the clap") with syphilis.

    1. It has seemed to me that TFG was getting progressively out of mental kilter; figured it was due to senility, compounded with impending doom in multiple courtrooms, but wondered if there might be something else going on. Secondary syphilis, developing into tertiary syphilis, would certainly be an adequate explanation. One medical technologist I used to work with had worked at the Palo Alto VA hospital, which had a tertiary syphilis ward; the ones who could walk pushed the wheel chairs of the ones who could see. A really sad place. Another person I worked with described one of the signs of congenital syphilis-- pointed canine teeth. Bad stuff.

  10. I knew Maine*DIL is a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurse, and that some of the women who come to the hospital where she works have addiction issues. But I never realised how much of her work involves babies born with addiction. It's heartbreaking work done in 12 hour shifts, and she has done it for years.

Now she has decided to run a marathon in support of High Watch Recover Center. Impressive!

    2. LOL. I asked PhD*Son if the marathon that Maine*DIL (his spouse) is running in is taking place in Berlin ME, Berlin NH, Berlin MA, Berlin CT, Berlin VT or Germany. Anyone want to guess?

    3. Home safely about 4:30. Current temp is about 15F, a bit warmer than predicted. The house is a bit chilly but not terribly cold -- Marc was complaining bitterly two days ago.

    4. It was assumed that babies born to mothers with cocaine and methamphetamine addiction (maybe other things as well) would suffer life-long problems, but that didn't prove to be the case. I worked in three hospitals with neonatal ICU's, and they are special. Children's hospitals too; children are not just small adults. At one of the children's hospitals they brought in a baby gorilla once. The phlebotomist joked that it was the ugliest kid he had ever drawn blood from. After the blood tests came back, the question was what to do in response to them, since the staff only included physicians for humans. So one of the physcians said, rather than take time trying to find normal blood test values for baby gorillas, let's just do what we would for a baby human--- get his fluids and electrolytes back in balance. And it worked fine. At another hospital they brought in an adult male gorilla that they figured had pneumonia for a chest X-ray. I didn't ask, but assume he had been sedated. Everything went well, and indeed he did have pneumonia of some sort and was treated for it.

  11. There are a bunch more Berlins, [Click] but I will put my money on the capital of Germany for the marathon. I figure the odds are long enough that if I win there will be an excellent payout.

    1. Since the High Watch Recovery Center is in Connecticut, my guess was Berlin CT. I was wrong.
The marathon is indeed in Germany, on September 28th...the day after PhD*Son & Maine*DIL's 21st anniversary.
So they are both going and they are both going to run. PhD*Son runs marathons in under 3 hours, so he qualified for a bib.
You definitely get a gold star, Alan! 🌟
