  1. Michael Tomasky: It’s Official: With “Vermin,” Trump Is Now Using Straight-up Nazi Talk [Click] “He’s telling us what he will do to his political enemies if he’s president again. Is anyone listening?” I would add to Mr. Tomasky’s examples the Beer Hall Putsch and the Reichstag Fire.

    1. I blame the media where journalism has gone to die. They *should* be honestly reporting trump's march to authoritarianism. His use of Hitler's language. His threats of violence and vengeance. But they don't. They are endangering our Democracy and they don't seem to "get it". It's all tabloid, gossipy frenzy. I want some REAL NEWS. Just the facts. (Susan)

    2. After I started working (for Amtrak/customer service), they sponsored a university class, journalism, for me, as an employee on the self improvement track.

First class, teacher gave everyone assignments to visit various sites on campus, to find and interview various people who were visiting the campus--it was homecoming, and write a story. We had an hour. I did. When I got back to the journalism building, everyone else was there, on the benches. No one had gone anywhere. All the stories but mine were made up. Kind of made you look into the future is all I'm saying.

    6. Ohhh, please find a way to watch tonight's episode of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It will do your heart good.
Stephen and Rachel go right into it and she even has a new book out on the subject of the history of fascism in the USA.

    8. Colbert to Maddow: "How do we get out of this mess?"
Her response was basically to say: If you are trying to defend democracy you cannot fight an anti-democratic movement with anti-democratic means. We need to treat one another like human beings, fight against scapegoating and toxic conspiracy theories, win at the ballot box, and relate the truth, do activism and journalism and not be scared of people who are trying to use violence to intimidate us out of this process.

    10. For us old Deaniacs, I guess that translates to Keep On Keeping On. And hurrah for Bernie being the adult in the Senate hearing today, eh? Proud Vermonter here! I love that Stephen spoke to that too.

  4. Mid-November and w'ere already hitting Christmas crunch time...since we will be seeing 7 of our 8 grandchildren on the second weekend in December. So we need to get our holiday ducks in a row. On top of that, we are deep cleaning large closets (including a big walk-in closet and the basement), to be able to take out all our wall to wall carpeting and put in floors that are better given my allergies. AND, it's time to put together this year's volume of Grand Moments...the life events and often hilarious comments and escapades of the grands. This will be Volume 7...and it too needs to be already through the printer by the second weekend in December. Yow! I'll try to come up for air sometimes.
