  1. As I was laying in bed this morning before getting up, I was reflecting on The Former Guy, and came to the conclusion that no matter how unhinged he seems when speaking before an adoring crowd of yokels, when actually in court he is restrained and well behaved. That argues strongly against a mental incompetence defense. And if we are to believe the reporting of Rolling Stone he is worried about imprisonment.

    1. Er, being worried about imprisonment would seem to indicate both intelligence and a moderately sound mind.

McCarthy and McConnell Lose Control of Their Caucuses [Click]
“‘In the span of three hours, rank-and-file Republicans bucked House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, leaving both GOP leaders weakened Sunday heading into a critical legislative period,’ the Washington Post reports.” McConnell too? I hadn’t realized that (if true).

    1. Notes: The WaPo story is not behind a firewall, and in its photo of McConnell he looks like he has lost significant weight.----Alan

“On the Ukraine funding, my read is that Democrats and Senate Republicans figure they’ll come back and get this as a standalone. Either that or they’ll do some creative accounting at the Pentagon to keep the armaments moving.”

    4. Things move fast. Last I heard, late last night, Schumer and McConnell were standing firm and more or less united.

    6. From what I read, McConnell's control of Senate Republicans is somewhat shakey but nobody is talking about replacing him.
Thing to remember is that back in January the far right fought tooth and nail against McCarthy's selection and were ultimately unsuccessful. What's changed?

  3. Trump falls into his own trap with dumbest move in legal history [Click] Oh what a tangled web we weave, when repeatedly we lie through our teeth? Case where Trump sued Michael Cohen for half a billion dollars; Trump is squirming wildly to get out of being deposed, will probably drop the case--- which will not stop Mr. Cohen from taking adverse action.

    1. Unconcious. The FBI is not providing additional details except that they provided medical attention.

    1. Sounds sensible to me - get him before he spends all his money on legal bills. Also, it's probably not too practical to renegotiate a prenup with someone in the slammer.

  8. All this (above) and Colbert comes back tomorrow night!

We spent four hours out on Lake Champlain today, and for the first time in 25 years of sailing, I was aboard when our boat sailed through The Cut...which means sailed out of our large Malletts Bay onto the broad Lake part of Lake Champlain! The Cut is an opening in the old railroad Causeway, created to let boats sail through. It's not a railroad line anymore...the tracks are gone, but it's a foot and bike path and there's a bike ferry to transport folks to the other side of the path, as needed.
