    1. OTOH, the abundance of methane and CO2 argues against the presence of life.

  2. ‘I feel like a man from another era’: Neanderthal hunter Ludovic Slimak [Click] Having been struck by his observation that stone tools made by Neanderthals are far more variable than those made by modern humans, I was going to purchase a copy of his new book— until I remembered another story. A certain archeologist, who had learned to make stone tools like those of early modern humans, learned (with considerable difficulty) how to make neanderthal-type tools. He discovered that although they didn’t look as pretty, they worked just as well—and importantly could be made faster and more easily. That, taken together with the paucity of neanderthal art, suggests to me that they had a very different esthetic sensibility from ours.

  4. Today I have been unusually tired, although I slept well. Been sniffling a lot too--probably side effects from the RSV vaccine.

Lovely time in Maine, but got home and was struck with food poisoning. Wil is fine. (At least we made it home first.) Looks like a rough night ahead.
