VT*Grand at the wheel!

  1. Well, when I posted this I didn't know....
Today, VT*Grand tested positive for Covid again. This is her second bout of it. She has been taking part in daily rehearsals for the school play ... which is a group that is seeing Covid cases. So the school play is somewhat in doubt at the moment. Like last time, her symptoms are mild at least. She has had to retreat to quarantine in the apartment above their garage ... fondly dubbed The Teen Apartment. As Laura Ingalls Wilder noted, "There's no great loss without some small gain."

I know who could unite and inspire Dems and win the Presidency no matter who the opponents are.

    Michelle Obama

Too bad she’s too smart to do it.

    1. I think a person has to have a low need for privacy. In that sense, Donald Trump, the exhibitionist was ideal, but too dumb to know when he was being suckered by Barr and his ilk.
George Conway, whose wife famously managed Donald Trump recently explained that they "got Trump to read the teleprompter" so his public pronouncements made sense.
I know from personal observation that it is possible for a person to read fluidly without understanding anything that is read. It's what I call "functional illiteracy." Studies indicate that 30% of U.S. adults are functionally illiterate. They rely on what people say. Limbaugh and Bannon and Trump speak to them.
Perhaps confused is their normal state of mind.

    2. I'm sure it is just a coincidence that about 30% of US voters are Republicans. As for The Former Guy, I stick by my diagnosis that he was already obviously senile when he first ran for President.

  3. Re the lead photo--what is that gizmo on top of the dashboard, directly beneath the rear view mirror? A navigation device, perhaps?

    1. It is the screen for just about everything from audio to navigation. When I plug in my iPhone to the truck's USB port, it uses my phone's GPS to show me where we are. If I use my Google Maps app, it will map a route I need and give all the navigational info as we travel. If I choose my music library, it will play anything I have, and even show the related album cover on the screen, etc, etc. In short, it's nifty!

    2. Note: Just behind that screen is a little well just the right size for a pair of sunglasses. We usually use it to hold our Speedpass device.

    3. I am reminded of the story about a fellow traveling along (through Connecticut?) who sees an old Yankee working in a field, goes over and asks him how to get to someplace or other, lets call it Orangeburg. The old fellow says "See that mountain over there? The traveler allows as he does, and the farmer says "Doesn't have anything to do with it. You go down this road the way you were goin', turn right just before you get to the bridge, and go. . .No, that won't work. You go back the other way, over the ridge and keep goin' until you get to the road by the big barn with the Mail Pouch sign on it, then turn left and go . . . No--- that won't work either. He keeps thinking about it, and finally says "You can't get there from here."

  4. I just checked on the current vote count in California; only seven close contests (less than 2% difference) at this time--I think three of them are US House seats, and the remainder seats in the legislature. A little short of five million ballots not yet processed, with an explanation of all the steps each must pass--it's really quite complicated. The counties have thirty days to report their final tallies.

    1. yes, years of low voter turnout and media arrogation of announcing results misled people about how elections actually work. What has not been addressed yet is that the "tradition" of candidates conceding served to call a halt to vote counting because, if the "loser" withdraws there is only one candidate left. That there are more candidates that do not get a mention in the press is another matter. Here in Georgia it is the other candidates who are responsible for no candidate getting more than 50%.
It's a good bet that Republicans will not turn out in great numbers for Walker, but we should remember that Raffensperger is Secretary of State because Democrats ignored the run-off in 2018.

    2. Shhhh, don't remind them. (I expect most of them don't even know this!) Don't give them any idears. 😉

  7. Nevada US Senate is still a squeaker. Excerpts from AP article three hours ago:

Saturday is the last day that mail ballots can arrive and be counted.

Tens of thousands of ballots not yet counted.

a few thousand more ballots could be added to the totals early next week.

Mail ballots with clerical errors can be “cured” by voters until the end of the day Monday, and then added to the totals. And a few thousand provisional ballots also remain, votes that election officials must double-check are legally countable by Tuesday before they can be tallied.

Elizabeth Holmes prosecutors seek 15-year sentence and $800m in restitution [Click] “Theranos founder faces maximum of 20 years in prison after she was found guilty of fraud and conspiracy.” Her lawyer has the gall to claim that she has “no criminal history!” Sure, aside from that little matter of a brobdingnagian fraud. I wonder if the wealthy fools who pumped money into her scheme also invested in cow magnets to improve automobile gas mileage.

  9. Multiple airplanes, including a B-17, crashed at Dallas Airshow not long ago.

    1. Air Show Collision

A B-17 Bomber (with 4 or 5 aboard) and a P-63 Fighter (single pilot) crashed. Likely none aboard survived. Amazingly, no one on the ground was injured despite one craft being split in two and there being an explosion as it hit the ground and the debris field including the airport, a highway and a mall.

    2. I saw video clips from different angles and had the impression that more aircraft were involved. Dreadful no matter the cause. I should suppose the P-63 pilot was experienced with the craft, but it was old, and high-performance. The balance is said to be unusual because of the center engine.

  10. I had somehow missed this one:
    What Nikki Haley said

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is under fire for calling for the deportation of Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock, who is a native Black American.
Haley made the audacious remarks during a campaign rally in Hiram, Georgia, for Warnock’s opponent, Republican senate candidate Herschel Walker. The two are in a tight race for the seat.

She just has her learner’s permit so far, but had been driving large mowers and small tractors already.

  15. NYT: Democrats Hold the Senate, as Cortez Masto Ekes Out a Victory in Nevada [Click] Looking ahead to Georgia runoff, “ . . . 51 seats would have practical implications. Instead of evenly divided Senate committees, Democrats would have a numerical majority, which would help them issue subpoenas, research nominations and send legislation to a final vote without the interceding of the Senate Democratic leader.”
