From anything I have seen so far it is not clear to me why simply having Mush own Twitter is a problem. There seems to be some idea that he is going to make changes, but at the moment I have no idea what those changes may be. Not sure I'd understand them anyway, since I've never been on Twitter.
listener messaged me that people were having trouble posting, and getting a "can't reach reCAPTCHA" error message, and asked if I had any ideas. I went into settings and found that verification feature wasn't even enabled. I tried enabling it and disabling it, because, you know, "have you tried turning it off and on again?" There's no reason that should have forked up the banner. I have no idea.
No, it didn't fork up the banner. It forked up the bottom part where we comment. And also, I hit "reply" and got a history of my belonging here, but no ability to reply. I blame Elon Musk (sort of kidding).
For me the banner was gone, but it's back now. Also, the page keeps refreshing while I try to comment, so I have to compose offline. Maybe Blogger has made too many "improvements" over the years it's causing problems. But I'm game for blaming Musk whenever possible.
Yup...it's refreshing even more often than usual, which will surely mess up puddle even if she can get in to post...which so far she cannot. She can read the blog and it seems to recognise her as puddle ( ! ), so she can't even post as Anonymous! But when she types and clicks "PUBLISH" nothing posts!
I’m thinking Blogger has made some changes and they’re now trying to adjust the mess they made. I say that because Renee and Susan have seen different issues than puddle has, or myself and Alan have seen. It seems to be a fluid situation. Maybe it’ll iron out in a few days?
If not, we need to get creative. Not having all members among us is NOT an option!!!
Would we be able to create a new Blogger group and start from scratch?
Would folks be willing to join a secret (meaning no one can find it or see it but us) Facebook group? Folks would need a minimal Facebook account, but you can use your blog name for that if you wish. I am able to set up a secret Facebook group if that ends up being the solution. Everyone would then be able to post photos and more easily share links.
But I like this minimalistic style of blogging. It's not so "busy" and glitzy.
FWIW, I have encountered no problems and seen no obvious changes. I haven't even had to sign back in, which has happened a couple of times before. But I am active on Facebook, so that could work.
I have emailed Cat to alert her to the Blogger issues, so she can check to see if she can still post, and to let her know that there's a possibility we may need to make a change. Also, I asked if she still has a way in to Facebook. We also need to hear whether Facebook even works for puddle these days. Very much open to other idears!!
Thanks for alerting me to the problems at HEP. I tried to leave a detailed comment, but my typing is much too slow. At the moment I'm not able to compose offline and copy to the blog. I'm back on FB for now but there is no way of knowing when or if they might kick me off again. So, FB isn't a good solution for me.
There are other blog sites such as Live Journal and Word Press, maybe others. Fun Trivia has a semi autonymous forum system, where people discuss everything under the sun. Don't recall offhand if you can edit comments there; but it is easy to use. Regular membership of Fun Trivia, which includes access to the forum system is*free*. Just create different user names for Fun Trivia proper and the forum system.
What a pity Blogger is on the blink. It has given reliable service all these years. With any luck it will sort itself out soon.

DeleteThis column strikes me as very sensible:
DeleteClarence Page: Elon Musk’s next surprise? ‘Free speech’ has limits.
I was watching to see if he would bail on Twitter. Not surprised.
ReplyDeleteThis site looks way different today. Not at all it's usual self. Oh, and I deleted my Twitter account.

What do folks think??
One of my many mottoes is: "Whatever works", so I'm good for whatever you do.

DeleteI would probably need some hand-holding, but I agree with Susan.

There is a new format and the amount of time one can take to comment.
ReplyDeleteIt likes my Google account. And refreshing the page.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to recognize and cooperate with me on my other computer, but not this one.
