Did you witness the Conjunction?

It was completely overcast here in Vermont.
So here is a photo of the (near) Conjunction one day before,
by Yaroslav Kourzenkov at Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia.

  2. Trump Trashes McConnell to Fellow Republicans
December 21, 2020 By Taegan Goddard

“President Trump lashed out at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday night for acknowledging Joe Biden won the election, sending a slide to Republican lawmakers taking credit for saving McConnell’s career with a tweet and robocall,” Axios reports.
It’s an extraordinary broadside against McConnell by the sitting president and most popular Republican in the party, ahead of a crucial runoff election in Georgia on Jan. 5 that will determine control of the Senate. Said Trump: “Sadly, Mitch forgot. He was the first one off the ship.”

    Egad.

    1. If trump really did save McConnell's career that's just one more major crime to be laid at his door.

  3. Wil's procedure got bumped to 1:00pm and will take an hour and a half. So there may not be an update before 4:00pm.

Tried to send this news with my iPhone and wouldyoubelieve that the iPhone update I accepted last night cancelled out my Google account info here. Great day for that to happen. Working on it.

    3. Apparently 1:00pm really means 2:45pm. But they're finally doing the deed.

    4. I have been known to work on the "On time is when I get there" principle. It's not quite 1:00 PM here.

  6. Walmart sued by US over alleged role in fuelling America's opioid crisis [Click] I testified in a case where a pharmacy--I think it was a Walmart branch--failed to detect prescription of incompatible drugs, and a man died in consequence. They made the excuse that they couldn't afford the computer software to catch the incompatibility, although they should have known it without a computer. They were acquitted, as was the physician. The information was in the prescribing guidelines for the medicines.

    1. I could be wrong about it being a Walmart branch--it was a long time ago. But it was a small branch of a large chain.

    1. Wow! 3 stents! Did they tell him there would be that many, or was it a surprise? Glad it went well.

  8. The doctor just told Wil that she used all 3 stents in one artery... because it was 99% blocked!!!

And that artery is the Left Anterior Descending artery...The Widowmaker. Which means...I had a 99% chance of being a widow.

    It's a new world.

  9. We are so lucky to live when we do. Sobering for me to consider that both of my major inherited diseases would have outright killed me a hundred years ago. Instead I live with only minimal blowback. Whew! Glad that's done. xox

    1. Yes, my father, his father and my maternal grandmother would have lived much longer had there been antibiotics in their times. And even if I had survived my cancer, my subsequent quality of life would have been far less even a decade earlier. I expect to see the day when cancer treatments are far less onerous and more successful than today.

  12. Third try:

Thomas Friedman: Will Trump Force Principled Conservatives to Start Their Own Party? I Hope So.
American politics will be shaped by the influence of the monarch of Mar-a-Lago.
[Click] Good luck to them. I’d say the Republican Party’s current status is very reminiscent of the Whig Party as it devolved into the American Party. The chances of “reformists” might be comparable to those of the survivors of the Granma landing. But Mr. Friedman overlooks a possible use Trump has for the money he has recently bilked out of his followers—paying off the huge debts he has coming due. I shouldn’t be surprised if the ultimate sources of those loans would be disinclined to accept a bankruptcy.

    1. There was never any doubt in my mind that the money will go towards paying Trump's debts, legal bills and the like. Then there's his 2024 campaign. Of course, running for president might be a tad difficult from the pen. Though I seem to recall a governor of Illinois who ran from the Pen. My memory is that he won, but my memory isn't what it once was. In any case, devotees of the cult of Trump surely won't be deterred by their hero or saint or whatever he is being in prison. If anything, that would vindicate their belief that he is a victim.

    2. Cat~~What Illinois governor was that? I didn't go to school in Illinois so I don't know a lot about Illinois politics prior to 1950.

    3. Bill, I'm probably mistaken. Didn't Rod Blagojevich run for a second term from prison? Looking him up (to figure out how to spell his name) it looks like my memory is faulty and he didn't win.
