Rudy Giuliani represented the Trump campaign before U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann in Williamsport, Pennsylvania:
GIULIANI: I’m not sure what “opacity” means. It probably means you can see.
    BRANN: It means you can’t.

Nissan warns UK government [again]: if there is no agreement to preserve existing tariffs on autos and auto parts trade with the EU within the next ten days, Nissan must cease manufacturing in the UK. [Click] Autos are the biggest part of the manufacturing sector in the UK, and Nissan is the largest auto manufacturer. Most of its UK production is sold on the Continent. Of course, if the UK government caves in to UK demands, its political legitimacy will probably be done for.

  2. MOM UPDATE:

    FUBAR

The hospis company reported us for elder abuse and refused to provide service. That means the state Dept. of Elder Services is now involved and, naturally, no other company can start service until the investigation takes place and we're cleared. IOW Mom is not receiving care.

She had a moderately restless night. I went in a couple times to soothe her, which seemed to help; but, neither Sis nor I think she got much sleep.

We think the end is near. The priest didn't answer his phone, which just figures. It's been that kind of day. I left a message. wLike Sis said, what else can you do.

Thank you, friends, for all your prayers and support. It means so much to me and my family. Please carry on, so she may have a peaceful end.

Did they at least explain what concerned them? Seems crazy to offer no treatment at all if they were concerned.

Keep comforting Mom, and I hope that comforts you as well! Stress upon stress isn’t good for anyone.

Twitter has long been one of President Donald Trump's biggest megaphones for spouting disinformation, yet the social media platform has been unwilling to aggressively censor the sitting president. So what will happen when Trump is no longer in office?

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) put the question to Jack Dorsey, the company's CEO, at a Tuesday Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. "What are both of you prepared to do regarding Donald Trump's use of your platforms after he stops being president?" she asked both Dorsey and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. "Will he still be deemed newsworthy, and will he still get to use your platforms to spread his misinformation?"

Dorsey answered by first explaining the company's existing policy, and how it can allow elected officials to make posts that would otherwise violate the company's rules.

"We do have a policy around public interest where, for global leaders, we do make exceptions in terms of if a tweet violates our terms of service. We leave it up, but we leave it up behind an interstitial and people are not allowed to share that more broadly," Dorsey responded.

"If an account suddenly is not a world leader anymore, that particular policy goes away," Dorsey added.

Of course, how Twitter actually responds to Trump after January 20, 2021, and whether he will become subject to the terms of service like any other user remains to be seen. But Dorsey's acknowledgment that current protections won't apply indicates Trump could no longer have such free rein.

Facebook may be another story. Zuckerberg did not directly answer the question.

  7. listener--just out of idle curiosity, why did your new snow tire fail? That seems rather odd these days.

    1. The Mini Team assessment was that I must have hit a pothole somewhere, as there was a bulge in the side of the tire and the steel belt broke. I did not feel a treacherous pothole in the two days I had the tire. But that was the evidence.

    2. Sounds odd. What brand of tire?

    1. Your presence makes all the difference. Just hold her hand and tell her she is always in your heart. If she likes, sing to her or play soft music or whatever kind she loves. Pray the Lord’s Prayer with her.

Cat, I once visited a dear old friend who was dying. Her family told me she could no longer speak and wasn’t lucid anymore. I held her hand and prayed the Lord’s Prayer and she actually joined in! Even though Mom can’t easily speak right now, she’ll pray it along with you in her heart.

  12. OHIO; COVID cases 318,828 and 5,827 deaths.

Also, it was announced to day that beginning tomorrow there will be a 10 p.m. curfew. People are asked to remain at home except for necessary trips to get groceries, medicine or doctor appointments until 12/17. The curfew, at this point, appears to apply to businesses only.

Susan, are you all stocked up in food and supplies?

I made the grocery run at 6:30am today. So, of course, it was 18°F and snowing!

I can still make a dinner out of practically nothing.
I bought maple syrup today, thinking we’ll stretch supplies by having pancakes and waffles as needed.
