Friday the 13th

On Friday, October 13, 1307, officers of King Philip IV of France arrested hundreds of the Knights Templar, a powerful religious and military order formed in the 12th century for the defense of the Holy Land.

Imprisoned on charges of various illegal behaviors (but really because the king wanted access to their financial resources), many Templars were later executed. Some cite the link with the Templars as the origin of the Friday the 13th superstition, but like many legends involving the Templars and their history, the truth remains murky.

  2. I have a black cat who looks exactly like that. He is a rescue named Poppy but we call him Void because when he sits in a dark place you can only see his eyes.

    1. We have a black cat too. He's all black, even his eyes. He's hard to see, even in daylight. :)

    2. Impressive pussems!

      We had three black grandcats...
Pippin was black with white paws.
MerryBear was black with a patch of white on his belly.
      Those two were litter brothers.
Strider was a few years older, all black, and spooky...snarly and sometimes meaner than a junkyard dog.

    1. I note that the wire services also say the island where the peacekeepers' helicopter crashed is in Egypt, but a quick check of the Internet shows it is in Saudi Arabia.

The official new case number is 84, but subtracting today’s number from yesterday’s is 92.

  6. MOM UPDATE:

The tele-conference went well; so, the home care company can get things started. Evaluation scheduled for early next week.

Mom herself is little changed. She's eating and drinking some. Having someone with her seem to calm her somewhat, but then she sends you away after a short time saying she wants to rest or sleep. Mostly her speech is garbled, but once in a while it's crystal clear. I pointed out that her kitty was in the chair keeping guard to which Mom responded clear as a bell, "She's a sweet girl." So, I don't know what to think. Cautious optimism maybe? Trying to stay upbeat for her sake anyway. The last thing she needs is to be discouraged by our attitude.

I found therapy (squeezy) balls and requested priority shipping. Hopefully, they will arrive promptly and we can at least get her started on that basic therapy.

  7. 'People got involved': how Los Angeles progressives swept the election [Click] Los Angeles has “that [reputation] of being blue”, but longtime residents know that the region, like the state, is more conservative than it appears, with plenty of local Trump supporters who are “just better at hiding it than the others”

L.A. County makes history with all female Board of Supervisors [Click] WOW! A Los Angeles County Supervisor is considerably more powerful than a US Representative.

    1. There are 18 US Representatives in Los Angeles County, currently 10 of them women. There are 5 Supervisors; you do the math.

    2. Actually, I don't object to a reduction in the number of politicians suffering from testosterone poisoning.
