Definitely more smoke this morning—I can definitely smell it. Predicted high temperature 109 deg. F. Temperatures predicted to be over 100 deg. F at least through the next ten days.

  3. The D.N.C. Offers Calamari Counterprogramming [Click] “At the pandemic-altered convention, the usually dull roll call became a travelogue of American diversity and comeback squid.” Hmmm…. maybe if I don’t have something better to do I will watch it.

  4. College Coronavirus Outbreaks Linked to Greek Life [Click] It seems that Joe Biden is and was not a fraternity member; that’s a plus in my opinion. Harris is a sorority member.

    1. I'm inclined to think She is more likely to feed him to his own dogs. And come to think of it, which god does he talk with? Mammon seems most likely.

  8. CNN: Comparison and Contrast: Trump and Biden’s plans for Social Security. [Click] Trump’s plan sounds ridiculous me; Biden’s sounds pretty good. It will be interesting to compare Biden's plan to Bernie's plan.

    1. I don't know if it is a mistake or not, but the news stories I have seen talk about a Social Security tax of 12.4% on income [or wages?] above $400,000 per year. I haven't seen any mention of what happens between the current maximum (130-something thousand dollars per year) and $400,000.

    2. 2020 Election: What Democrats Told Older Voters at the AARP Forums July 23rd, 2019 [Click] “Klobuchar, Harris, Biden and Buttigieg would take a “donut hole” approach; Klobuchar, Harris and Buttigieg wouldn’t tax earnings between $133,000 and $250,000, but would levy the payroll tax on earnings over $250,000. Biden’s donut hole would close at $400,000.” I don’t see the point of that, but maybe it’s a matter of going fishing where the fish are.

  9. I don't know what time President Obama is speaking tonight, but from the little bit of his speech that has leaked it looks like he's going to give trump a serious bitch slap.

    1. Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic Convention is the best speech I've heard in at least 4 years.

  10. Here is a partial list of some of the speakers lined up for the Republican Convention: Seriously.
    Kid Rock
    Ted Nugent
    Scott Baio
Nick Sandman (the MAGA hat kid from Covington Catholic)
    The Demon Sperm Doctor
    My Pillow guy
    GOYA beans CEO
The couple from St.Louis who pointed their guns at protestors
    Jon Voight
    Diamond and Silk
    James Wood
    The Blacks for Trump guy

One more reason I'm glad I'm not a Republican. They are so embarrassing!

Melania flatly refuses to go on the campaign trail for trump. She will speak at the Convention but no more. I'm not surprised because I'd guess the very last thing she wants is four more years to be stuck with trump.

  12. Credit card update: You may recall that a week ago I mentioned that the credit card that had expired at the end of July had been mailed for arrival the next day. When it hadn't come today I called back. Turns out it was actually mailed mid-June as usual---a replacement will be in the mail tomorrow. I don't know what the first guy was thinking. Can't shake the suspicion that he was deliberately lying so HE wouldn't have to arrange for the replacement to be mailed.

    1. I suppose he thinks he can just veto every item of business before the Security Council if they do not bend to his will. But as memory serves me, things can be diverted through the General Assembly in case of need.

    1. The story isn't specific, but it sounds like they put a radioactive sphere where the tumor was removed and leave it for a little while, remove it, and close things up. I will investigate further. Good news.

    58 deaths (2 wks)

    Tests are so strange today:
    18th 114,097
    19th 113,897 (-200?)

Oddly, today’s testing total is 200 less than yesterday’s. I am hopeful it’s a typo [the 3 should be a 4?] so it’s actually +800. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
