OX!

21 comments:

  1. The ox appears to have an udder (or is it something other than an udder?) so I consulted the dictionary; and learned to my surprise that a female bovine can be called an ox:

From The Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48:

Ox \Ox\ ([o^]ks), n.; pl. Oxen. [AS. oxa; akin to D. os. G.
ochs, ochse, OHG. ohso, Icel. oxi, Sw. & Dan. oxe, Goth.
a['u]hsa, Skr. ukshan ox, bull; cf. Skr. uksh to sprinkle.
    [root]214. Cf. Humid, Aurochs.] (Zool.)
The male of bovine quadrupeds, especially the domestic animal
when castrated and grown to its full size, or nearly so. The
word is also applied, as a general name, to any species of
    bovine animals, male and female.
    [1913 Webster]

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field.
    --Ps. viii. 7.
    [1913 Webster]

Note: The castrated male is called a steer until it attains
its full growth, and then, an ox; but if castrated
somewhat late in life, it is called a stag. The male,
not castrated, is called a bull. These distinctions are
well established in regard to domestic animals of this
genus. When wild animals of this kind are spoken of, ox
is often applied both to the male and the female. The
name ox is never applied to the individual cow, or
female, of the domestic kind. Oxen may comprehend both
    the male and the female.
    [1913 Webster]

    Grunting ox (Zool.), the yak.

    Indian ox (Zool.), the zebu.

    Javan ox (Zool.), the banteng.

Musk ox. (Zool.) See under Musk.

Ox bile. See Ox gall, below.

Ox gall, the fresh gall of the domestic ox; -- used in the
    arts and in medicine.

Ox pith, ox marrow. [Obs.] --Marston.

Ox ray (Zool.), a very large ray (Dicerobatis Giornae) of
Southern Europe. It has a hornlike organ projecting
forward from each pectoral fin. It sometimes becomes
twenty feet long and twenty-eight feet broad, and weighs
over a ton. Called also sea devil.

To have the black ox tread on one's foot, to be
unfortunate; to know what sorrow is (because black oxen
were sacrificed to Pluto). --Leigh Hunt.
    [1913 Webster]

    1. Yes. I’d never known that either. But it was basically explained to me by my 6 year old grandson. 😆

  2. Sanders camp admits anti-Warren script was deployed in multiple early states [Click] OK, but I still think Warren did not handle it well. And her claim that he said a woman couldn't be elected President simply seems inconsistent with his behavior and speech at least as far back as when he was mayor of Burlington.

    1. I unsubscribed from Warren's e-mails and told them why. The way she treated Bernie the last couple of days was just the last straw for me. I have changed my standing Warren donations to Bernie. Should she be nominated, I will vote for her. But in the primary I will definitely vote for Bernie. That ought to be about the 5th of February.

    2. I’m not particularly happy with either one of them and their campaigns on this issue. I really hate politics.

    3. Nate Silver: “More nuanced analyses of the Sanders-Warren conflict suggest that maintaining a nonaggression pact would be mutually beneficial because otherwise Biden could run away with the nomination. But the word ‘mutually’ is debatable. I’d argue nonaggression toward Warren is pretty clearly in the best interest of Sanders, who was in the stronger position than Warren heading into the debate and who would probably prefer to focus on Biden. But it’s probably not beneficial to Warren. Any scenario that doesn’t involve Warren winning Iowa will leave her in a fairly rough position — and winning Iowa means beating Sanders there.”

Lev Parnas interview, tonight, 9pm ET, MSNBC.

Did anyone here watch the interview? I don’t get MSNBC, but will look for a link now after the fact.

  4. I don't have cable so didn't see the interview, but evidently it was explosive and extremely damaging to trump's entire cabal. I copied this quote from a facebook post by Michael Moore. Interview must have been a doozy because the interwebs are buzzing non-stop.

Here's the copy: " Yet, in just 59 stunning minutes, only 12-hours ago, Lev spilled all the beans, directly linking Trump to the extortion of the Ukrainian president and the treasonous attempts by Trump to coerce a foreign power to destroy his front-running opponent Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Is there a worse crime against the country than trying to fix/cheat/overthrow a presidential election? Other than taking a knee at an NFL game? We are in traitors territory here my friends.

Thanks to Rachel’s dogged questioning of Lev Parnas, we learned just how much Mike Pence was involved, along with Attorney General Barr and Congressman Devin Nunes. And Parnas let us know how critical it is to have John Bolton testify at Trump’s Senate trial. Parnas himself also volunteered to testify. "

  5. Interesting. Blogger wouldn't post my comment about what Parnas needn't fear.

  8. It would certainly be inappropriate if they talked about the trial, but I don't see that there would be anything wrong with talking about infrastructure or the Green New Deal, for instance.

On the opposite side, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) unseated Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as the most unpopular.
