  3. Nate Silver: If You’re Polling In The Low Single Digits, You’re Probably Toast [Click] Interesting comparisons to previous Democratic primary contests. I remain somewhat surprised that Cory Booker hasn’t been doing better, and opine that he could be a dandy running mate. But candidates I favor are typically doomed.

A column behind a paywall opines that the nationalization of political contests means the favorite son or daughter advantage amounts to very little for presidential candidates these days (not to mention congresscritters).

California Is Officially an Early State [Click] “The top candidates have been to California 58 times.” Not once here, of course. I don’t see a sign that any of them has a significant ground game in California. I recall that one of them appeared in Sacramento, but other than that special case I don’t think they have appeared in the Central Valley—just in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas. Well, we shall see.

    1. A previous article you posted said that Bernie and kamala were establishing strong ground games in California.

    2. That might be so, but I haven't seen it--maybe my head is in the sand. Expecting the occasional mailer or bumper sticker also reveals the fact that I am a fossil. Doorknocking here is the remit of the religious evangelists. And why would Dems waste time knocking on my door when they know everybody around here votes Republican? The facts that Bernie brought out a bigger crowd than any other politician ever, and that Trump quickly escaped without warning so that the mob wouldn't trap him after his lackluster rally count for nothing. Oh, well. I'm tired and therefore somewhat morose. Whoever or whatever the Dems nominate will carry California, and I will temporarily re-register as a Democrat to make sure I have a say in the primary. I am still toying with the idea of voting before the Iowa caucuses begin.

    3. I have knocked on doors in solidly Republican parts of DuPage County. Sometimes on every door, which was arguably a waste of time, and other times only on the doors of people who had voted in the previous Democratic primary. (That would be "registered Democrats" in California.)

John Bolton: Trump's national security adviser is out

Of course, he’s out over the one thing he did right.

    1. I expect that Mr. Bolton will not take kindly to it, and will do Trump some political damage. He strikes me as one who enjoys carrying a grudge. Good.

  5. Quote of the Day
September 10, 2019 By Taegan Goddard

“His campaign manager is a felon. His deputy campaign manager is a felon. His personal lawyer is a felon. His foreign policy advisor is a felon. His national security advisor is a felon. The Trump campaign was run by criminals.”
    — GOP strategist Stuart Stevens, on Twitter.

    Like the Trump administration IS...

  7. From Wikiquote:

    Debs on voting
"It is better to vote for what you want and not get it than to vote for what you don't want and get it," is probably a misquote, rather than spurious. In the speech, "Competition versus Cooperation," delivered at Central Music Hall, Chicago, on 29 Sept. 1900, Debs said, "It is infinitely better to vote for freedom and fail, than to vote for slavery and succeed."

The original reference appears to be a 1912 almanac printed by the Socialist Party with statements attributed to Debs, including: “I’d rather vote for what I want and not get it, than for what I don’t want and get it.”

    1. As expected, at 9:10 PM EDT the GOP candidate is the winner in the 3rd District; the 9th District, with a little over half the votes counted, is a squeaker with the Democrat ahead.

    2. With 87% of precincts reporting, the GOP candidate has pulled ahead.

    3. With only two precincts out, the Republican candidate has a 4160-vote lead and has been declared the winner. A bit of a disappointment, but you can't win them all.

      Delete
    4. With 100% reporting, the GOP candidate wins by 2%, just about what was predicted, and very narrow compared to Trump's 2016 win by 12%.

  10. Trump’s trade war has already cost the US 300,000 jobs. [Click] That ought to cost him around 500,000 votes if there is justice in politics.
