  1. Oh, pox. Blogger ate my rather long post, and I forgot to save a copy. Well, gotta get to work.

    1. Thanks, Cat! The sunlight on the snow was gorgeous and I love the photo. But I'm still heartbroken about the subject of the photo...our broken Birch tree.

Here goes partially restoring my post of this morning:

    From politicalwire.com:

Sen. Bernie Sanders announced that he has raised $18.2 million from more than 900,000 individual donations since launching his presidential campaign on February 19.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) raised $12 million for her 2020 presidential campaign in the first quarter, the Daily Beast reports. That haul came from more than 218,000 individual contributions.

    1. I forget exactly how many candidates were on the ballot for Illinois governor. There were three frontrunners and at least that many other candidates. In the general election, the Republican incumbent conceded almost as soon as the polls closed.

    2. While attention was focused on Chicago, Oak Park also held it's municipal elections. Eleven candidates ran for three seats on the Village Board. Somewhat to my surprise, two of the three I voted for won. Turnout came to almost 8900; I'm not sure how that compares to previous municipal elections.

There were no strong contrasts on issues throughout the field, although there were differences in emphasis. Even though property taxes in Oak Park are very high -- I pay almost $20,000 a year -- candidates who emphasized "fiscal responsibility" did not do particularly well.

  4. Bernie's campaign took in $18M in the first quarter and added 100,000 new contributors!!! About half are under age 39.
