  1. A National Nurse is first!!

    *ACTION ITEM*
Letters of support are needed from any of you who support the National Nurse Act, which is still in Congress. This message comes from Nurse Teri. Any message of support is welcome. I wrote mine in my own words.
Note: ANA = American Nurses Association

    “Hello,

“We learned today that ANA is pulling their support for the National Nurse Act after supporting it the past four years in addition to providing a letter of support. WE NEED ALL OF YOUR HELP RIGHT NOW!!! We would like to have you send this email to other supporters so they too can add their support for the bill.

“Please copy, paste and send this email to ernest.grant@ana.org cc: Ingrid.lusis@ana.org

    “***BLIND CC Teri@nationalnurse.org
WE need to track all of these emails— this is very important. Please copy, paste, and edit. You will need to choose from the first three sentences, and be sure to say what you do.”

    Hello or Dear President Grant,

I am a long time ANA member from (State). OR I am a nurse from (State). OR I am a long time supporter of the National Nurse Act. I have just learned that ANA is no longer supporting the National Nurse Act, and I am deeply disappointed. The Act is totally aligned with the ANA Code of Ethics.

I write today to urge you to reconsider your position.

A nurse’s practice is based on evidence, not on hearsay. The National Nurse Act continues to receive tremendous support our country from Congress, nurses, and other stakeholders. I am baffled and do not understand the rationale behind this sudden change in ANA’s position.

Health promotion and prevention are critical components of our healthcare system, and we need a recognized nurse leader to provide instruction and guidance to the 3.6 million nurses who are perfectly capable of transmitting these messages to patients and families. Designating the Chief Nurse Officer of the USPHS as the National Nurse for Public Health is timely. It will not require any valuable additional dollars to enact this legislation. No harm will be done to the Chief Nurse Officer position as duties and responsibilities remain as they are currently performed.

I urge you to reconsider your position in a timely manner. The members of ANA who you were elected to serve deserve nothing less.

    Thank you,

  2. I knew it!!

Vermont Edition is just beginning, and the topic is whether Vermont should join 48 other states and have a 4 year term for Governor or keep its 2 year term. 2 former governors will debate it this hour. In favour of the change is Gov. Madeline Kunin who favors 4 year and Gov. Howard Dean who says that a 2 year term keeps the Governor close to the people!!! Love it!

    4. Like many of us, I have felt so frustrated with Howard for his lobbying and other work since he left the Party leadership. But I have to admit that it felt really good to hear his voice and his perspective today. He sounded exactly like his old self. I miss those days!!

  6. Donald Trump's spot-on compliment for Kamala Harris - Click

From South Carolina, Harris traveled to her hometown of Oakland, California, where she delivered a traditional campaign kickoff speech in front of a crowd estimated at more than 20,000. (I wrote about the most telling lines in her speech here.) In truth, the big crowd Harris drew was probably what made Trump say he thought she had the best campaign kickoff. "A better crowd -- better crowd, better enthusiasm," Trump said of Harris in comparison with the other Democrats who have announced their plans to run.

We know how important crowd size is to Fart. I wonder, will his apparent seal of approval be the kiss of death to Harris' campaign? I certainly wouldn't vote for any candidate who earned his praise, however faint or confused!

Howard Schultz just said Medicare for All is "not American"

Cat, I founded the Medicare for All Caucus because it is time to finally guarantee health care as a basic human right.

Unfortunately, billionaire Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, who’s considering running for President as an independent in 2020, just called Medicare for All “not American” and “unaffordable”.

Howard Schultz should just stick to coffee. It’s “not American” for the 3 richest people in America to have more wealth than the bottom 50%. It’s “unaffordable” when 80 million people can’t pay for their health care.

We are closer than ever before to passing universal health care - but only if the next Democratic nominee for President supports Medicare for All!!

So I’m asking you to join me in DEMANDING that every single nominee for President in 2020 endorses Medicare for All! >>

The fight for universal health care has been an uphill battle. But that’s because insurance companies, drug manufacturers, and special interest groups have been standing in the way of real progress.

The truth is, Medicare for All isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also a solution that most Americans support!

So I’m demanding that all Presidential candidates for 2020 endorse this program -- for the American people AND to defeat Trump.

To do that, we need to show that grassroots Progressives are ready for Medicare for All.

It’s time to change the American health care system for good. Please join me in demanding that every candidate for President in 2020 endorses Medicare for All! >>

We’ve built so much momentum since launching the Medicare for All Caucus. We’ve grown to 70 members and for the first time ever, Congress will hold hearings on Medicare for All!! But that isn’t enough.

The United States is still the only industrialized nation that doesn't guarantee health care to every single citizen. Premiums are still skyrocketing. Patients are still dying because they’re putting off medical visits that they just can’t afford.

No family should ever live one health care crisis away from bankruptcy. That’s why it’s time for Medicare for All. And it’s time to elect a President who will stand with us.

The next President will be able to make universal health care a reality. But only if we stand together and demand every nominee for President in 2020 endorses Medicare for All! >>

    Let’s make it happen!
