Merry Christmas!

This is the Nativity set we gave to Root*Center*Son. The Kings are, so far,  behind it on the windowsill.  We love that the Baby can be set into the manger or held in his mother's arms!  We also think it's a hoot that Mary's outfit looks like she's a member of the Missionaries of Charity established by Mother Teresa of Calcutta! 😇

  2. And nice weather, too!

I am slogging through restoring our desktop computer (an "old" iMac). I discovered that OmniDictionary had disappeared, and nearly had a cow when I discovered it is no longer available for download. BUT--I realized I had it on both my laptops, e-mailed a copy to the iMac, and all is now well. It does not work from a single dictionary loaded onto the hard drive, but goes out on the Internet seeking definitions from a number of online dictionaries (notably the 1913 Webster). I have the Apple dictionary, and it is pretty much always disappointing in comparison. OmniDictionary is only for Mac, but seems to work well on new ones as well as legacy versions. If anyone here would like a copy, let me know.

    1. If I want a dictionary definition (somewhat rare) I use Goodsearch. That also brings up definitions from multiple dictionaries. It does require opening a browser, though.

  3. Could you give a link, Bill? Some perfunctory searching does not discover the site you must mean.
    TIA

    1. The URL is https://www.goodsearch.org/. This is an alternative to Google that will pay your favorite charity (The Disability Pride Parade for me, obviously) a penny for every search you make.

    3. Aha! I tried goodsearch.com, which is a very different thing. Thanks, Bill.

  4. This morning dawned windy with heavy clouds; definitely a cold front coming through. Then the wind decreased, the clouds parted to give abundant sunshine, and now the clouds (predominantly cumulus) have thickened, covering maybe three quarters of the sky. Still pretty nice.

  5. Will the Goat Survive This Year? [Click] The new guardians might help, certainly. If they mean business.

  6. We had a delightful, unexpectedly sweet Christmas in so many ways ... from the family gathering weekend before last to the Christmas Eve church service where the priest was (unexpectedly) one of the people I sit with in spiritual guidance to dinner at Youngest's house tonight followed by the sweetest thank you note from his spouse to phone calls from all the grands we did not see today! We hung out in bed until noon when Eldest*Grand texted that she got an iPhone for Christmas, and her younger sister phoned us with FaceTime on her new iPod. In the evening we spoke with VT*Grand, then got a call from Younger*Grandson wishing us "Merry Christmas Gramie & Grandad!" at bedtime. We also watched The Man Who Invented Christmas (HIGHLY recommended!!). Wonderful experiences all.

    1. ^ What an antithesis to what our nation is living through right now...! That gives me hope.

    2. Indeed; we are better than what is going on in Republican politics these days. I remain of the opinion that we are probably seeing the demise of a major political party--the first in about 160 years. Necessary corollaries of that (if one subscribes to Hegel and Marx) is that the Democratic Party will also be changed, and that another second major political party will arise.
