  1. Sure hope DIL is OK this morning, listener. Most things are better in the morning.

A couple of long reads from the NY Times:

Regional cultures and voting patterns. [Click] It's not much city vs. rural, says author. Well, maybe.

    1. Reminds me of "The Seven Nations of North America." Except the latter makes more sense in my mind. Especially in terms of how the boundaries are drawn. Chicago part of Yankeedom? Minnesota? Get real! And given the way the Chicago metro area dominates Illinois politics, he is saying that Illinois shifted from reddish to mostly blue because the Deep South went from Blue to Red. Really?

He's right that culture matters, but the details just don't add up.

    2. That's what I was thinking too, Bill, viewed from my locality. But writers (and editors, if they have any) at the New York times seem to have seriously imperfect understanding of that portion of the United States lying west of the Hudson.

Mueller Has Evidence Trump Obstructed Justice[Click] Sounds like the WH continues to leak like a sieve…

Trump knows the Russia Probe will result in more of a public relations battle than a legal one. [Click] “The [most likely] outcome [of the investigation] is that Mueller releases the findings from his investigation sometime this fall — and lets the chips, as they relate to Trump, fall where they may.” I hope it comes well before the deadlines to register to vote…

  3. My cousin on Vancouver Island is contemplating the purchase of an air conditioner. It has been hot and everything is dry as tinder, but rain is predicted come Saturday.

  6. I wanted to mention that an email today from the DNC featured eight congressional candidates running for the first time. One of them was Andrew Janz.

  7. Thanks, Alan.

I got the call at 3:27am to come and left by 3:40am. Tests confirmed that it was not the Sybil of Downton Abbey illness. It turned out that the docs had changed DIL's BP med the day before and it was causing the headache! So they switched her back to her former med, and increased it a little. They got home 5 hours later. I had not gotten back to sleep, so was running on about 3 hours of sleep. When I got home this afternoon (via grocery shopping!), I slept for a little over a half hour. So I'll be crashing into my pillow very soon.

But I got to hold new grandbaby again today and will see them all tomorrow too.

Meanwhile 10 year old granddaughter is here. While I was driving back from Son & DIL's house, she got word that her pet rabbit had suddenly simply died. The rabbit being only a year or so old, this was a big shock to everyone. So Grandad drove her home for the burial and back here (an hour each way).

    It's been quite a day!
