Where do I sign up? I have a fond recollection of Black Diamond white cheddar.

  3. Would you like the same health care system, cheese and maple syrup as Canada?
Quick, everybody move to Vermont and we'll secede.

    1. It looks like the road and other basic connections are with Quebec rather than Ontario, but with Doug Ford as premier of Ontario, that's probably all to the good. If Vermont became Baja Quebec, you could join the Rhinoceros Party, non? And Montreal seems to have finally escaped from the crushing financial burden of the Olympics--in 1978, was it?

Trump May Doom the Medium He Loves[Click] Trump could help destroy his constant obsession, the voices that talk to him at the crack of dawn and the late hours of the night: Trump could actually kill cable TV. And what would the “cable-news president” be without cable?

Hayden appeared on CNN’s “New Day” this morning and excoriated President Trump for his incendiary and bellicose comments towards Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, declaring that the response made Trump look “unstable, erratic, and thin-skinned.”

“One of the arguments was that the president can’t show weakness, and that what Trudeau did required this robust response otherwise the president would appear to be weak as he flew to Singapore,” Hayden said on the CNN program.

“Trudeau did not make President Trump look weak. President Trump made President Trump look unstable, erratic, and thin-skinned,” Hayden concluded.

    1. Did you know that the woman on Fox who used the term "two dictators" in reference to Kim & Trump is the daughter of Jon Huntsman, the US Ambassador to ... Russia?!

    2. Didn't know that, but thought it was a hoot.

  7. “A Radical is a man with both feet firmly planted--in the air. A Conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk forward. A Reactionary is a somnambulist walking backwards. A Liberal is a man who uses his legs and his hands at the behest--at the command--of his head.”---FDR

    1. I saw film clips of Kim and Trump arriving at the meeting place. Kim exuded control. Stepped decisively from his limousine; immediately attended by bodyguards (as I recall he is normally accompanied by 50-60 in roughly concentric circles), greeted by a line of people, entered the building. Trump's limousine pulls up; one man, probably an employee of the hotel, holds the door open for him. Trump has difficulty exiting the limousine. No body guards, no attendants, no one to greet him. He doesn't look confident. He enters the hotel.

    2. I obviously won't be watching, since I don't watch TV at all. And I can't imagine anything but empty formalities being shown anyway. I will be looking for news articles about what, if anything, comes out of it.

  9. Currently rereading The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos by Brian Greene. I read it when it first came out on Audible in 2011 and am enjoying the reread.

    1. Good choice, Cat! Brian Greene is a stellar author. Have you ever read Diarmuid O'Murchu's take on the Cosmos: Quantum Theology" It's one I read years ago and may revisit.

The case for invading America[Click] I have responded that rather than engage in futile resistance I, my family, and many friends are prepared to surrender. Now. I have asked where we may give our parole, and how much cheese we must purchase.

    1. The other day my mother posted on Facebook a plea for Canada to annex New England. She was crushed when I pointed out that, though a marvelous idea that I highly approve of, it's not original.

  11. I vote we head up to the little international crossing in Derby Line, Vermont.
Their Library/Opera House is half in the USA and half in Canada!
    I kid you not!

    1. Sounds like a great place to facilitate illegal immigration. No wall!! (You'll noticed I didn't specify immigration in which direction.)

    2. I recall the prohibition-era stories about the bar(s) on the border--the bar and liquor were in Canada; the barstools in the US. Then there is the popular ditty:

Four and twenty Yankees, feeling very dry,
      Went across the border to get a drink of rye;
When the rye was opened, the Yanks began to sing:
“God bless America, and God save the King.”

I am reminded of traveling in BC quite some time ago; at the time the beer parlours (very important social institutions) were still segregated; and advertising was severely restricted. The way one spotted them was to keep an eye out for a building with two entrances, one posted for men and the other for ladies with escorts.

    3. It's probably fitting that this Summer's production at the Opera House, by the Borderline Players, is "Little Shop of Horrors"!!

  12. Thanks for the inspiration, everyone!!

Tonight I sent a letter of apology to a dear friend in Canada.

"We send our deepest apologies to you and all Canadian citizens for the actions of the insane person who inhabits our White House. I just read the Canadian article “The Case For Invading America” and it makes good sense to me. May Vermonters simply surrender at the border?

    https://www.macleans.ca/opin…/the-case-for-invading-america/

"Seriously though, maybe we could all meet this Summer at Haskell Free Library and Opera House in Stanstead QC/Derby Line VT, since it straddles the border and visitors do NOT need a passport to enter! (At least they never used to. Would need to check now.) We could consider it a vote for unity and civility and friendship between our countries.

"The season’s production by the Borderline Players seems rather apropos: 'Little Shop of Horrors.'
"Warmest Regards and again, sincerest apologies!!"
