    1. Thinking about my art project precipitated a panic attack today, but I got it tamped down and know what I need to do. First I need to quit work so I can schedule regular study time. My economical new fountain pen with the stub nib is supposed to arrive on or before Friday; depending on how it works with my sketching papers I may add it to my field kit. Then I start learning how to use the various supplies--paper, pens, brushes, ink and water colors.

    2. Alan, you do not have to be productive at every point in your retirement, you know? You're allowed to just "be". Your post of planning sounds like a different version of working - just with different materials. Sleep late, go to bed when you want, paint, draw of do nothing. It's all good.

    3. "or" do nothing. Someday I will learn to proofread.

    4. Susan makes a fine point (pen pun intended).

My plan for retirement is to spend some quality time doing Nothing, very slowly.

    6. Susan--point well taken. I was going to make a joke about a Mediterranean cruise, linked to a picture of galley slaves hard at work (think Ben Hur), but couldn't find a satisfactory illustration. Well, they say it's the thought that counts.

Making psychological progress re my anticipated sketching hobby, through both self-reflection and help from Naomi. What a bunch of old truck I have to work through!

  2. The guns debate is a culture war. And young people will win it [Click] Well, I hope so. I don't think I have another big fight left in me.

  3. Thanks for that, Susan. It's a mouthful in so many ways!

  4. I'll be leaving tomorrow for an SF con (science fiction convention) in Minneapolis. Probably won't be posting again until Tuesday.
