Inside the Greenhouse

  1. In my entire life I've never seen such weather in February. It's 60 degrees here today. In February! It's just wrong. And it fills me with the fear that summer will be triple-digit unbearable.

    1. It was 60 here too, but Chicago weather has always been crazy. If I wanted to take it as an omen I'd say the summer will be cool except when it isn't. :-)

    1. The coffin one is in dubious taste, but undeniably funny.

    1. It seems I have used up my access to that web site for the month, but here is another bit on the same subject:

  4. If truth be told, the verb that actually occurred to me was rather more emphatic than "playing," but this being a family-oriented blog, I thought it best to be diplomatic.

If Democrats were at all sensible they would focus on the fact that the Republican Party is waging an accelerated War on the Poor. Everything they've done while in total control has been to strip us of rights and programs and funnel money - ALL the money - to the rich. Ending SNAP and sending "Harvest Boxes" of powdered milk and canned foods? Attacking Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security? Robbing women of control over their own bodies? Yeah. Those are the things that concern me. Instead the Democrats will probably continue their stupid tactic of "Oh, we're better than the Republicans". Then prove it.

Quite some time back, Susan, I came to the conclusion that it doesn't make any qualitative difference if one votes for the Greater Weevil or the Lesser Weevil. If you keep voting for Weevil, it is Weevil you will get--sooner or later. Lesser Weevilism simply does not float my boat anymore.

I agree with both Susan and Alan. Democrats are most definitely not sensible, hence my yearning to separate, create a new party and let the blighters sink without a trace. Trouble is, when I finally put my foot down in 2016 and refused to vote for the Lesser Weevil, look what happened. We got the Weevil to end all Weevils. Kind'a shakes a girl's confidence.

    1. If my vote should make the least bit of difference, it would be another matter, and sometimes it is. But California's presidential vote is not in question and hasn't been for quite some time.

    2. I take the point of view that "the Democrats" are the people who vote in Democratic primaries. Ultimately, we are the people who determine what Democratic candidates and Democratic office holders stand for.

And you think that money skews everything? Somebody names Howard showed that, in the day of the internet, you could raise all the money you needed from small grassroots supporters. I'm one of those, too.

    3. It would really be nice to have our party primaries back; I detest California's current "jungle primary" system.

  7. The way the Constitution is written pretty much makes a two-party system a certainty. I think there is a pretty good chance the Democratic Party will be refurbished (which will take some time) and the Republican Party is likely to disintegrate like the Whig Party. Maybe some survivors will recycle the name, or maybe not. But building the new second party is likely to be slow and (at least for a while) chaotic. How all this is going to happen and how far down the road to Hell our mutual handbasket will go I have no idea.
