Bigger Button Man’s tweet of yesterday was probably meant as a distraction. And
here[Click] is George Lakoff’s take on how he uses Twitter as a weapon. How to counter it puzzles me, but there ought to be some way.

    1. From one perspective the best way would be simply to ignore his tweets. But that's hard because they could give a clue to his thought processes and intentions.

    2. Oh, I just now noticed that you didn't snap the photo, listener. Nice, though.

  3. It's pretty sad that this has to be posted near the top of the CNN news page:

"Shortly after 8 p.m. on Election Night, when the unexpected trend — Trump might actually win — seemed confirmed, Don Jr. told a friend that his father, or DJT, as he calls him, looked as if he had seen a ghost. Melania was in tears—and not of joy.

There was, in the space of little more than an hour, in Steve Bannon’s not unamused observation, a befuddled Trump morphing into a disbelieving Trump and then into a horrified Trump. But still to come was the final transformation: Suddenly, Donald Trump became a man who believed that he deserved to be, and was wholly capable of being, the president of the United States."

OMG, you guys. This piece is really, really, really long, but it is pretty much a must read.

  5. More, from same article: "Trump did not enjoy his own inauguration. He was angry that A-level stars had snubbed the event, disgruntled with the accommodations at Blair House, and visibly fighting with his wife, who seemed on the verge of tears. Throughout the day, he wore what some around him had taken to calling his golf face: angry and pissed off, shoulders hunched, arms swinging, brow furled, lips pursed."

  7. So, I want to tell you what I just discovered my Sweetie (Wil) has been doing. Recently a large tan cat came by our yard and yowled pitifully in the bitter cold. I went out and tried to connect with him, but he ran off. I figured he belonged locally and had missed his chance to get in for the night. And it was about -12F out. So I opened our garage door just a bit and went to bed. He came back later that same week, again yowling sadly. So we began leaving our garage door open just a little, and leaving a bit of food and water too. The food is gone in the morning and there are cat prints. So we left an old cat bed out there, just incase he needed it. But we rarely see the cat. Well, with the storm approaching New England, I went out and set the reflectors for the plow guy, replenished the food and water, and ~ lo, and behold, there is the cat bed, now in a sideways cardboard box, and beneath it...a heating pad, turned on. That totally melted my heart. I'm starting to hope the cat is a stray and has adopted us, because at least he'll survive the winter, and he might even keep the mice population at bay! Ha!

    1. I forgot to mention that we posted about Tan Kitty in the local online email group (Front Porch Forum), asking if anyone is missing a tan cat. But there were no takers.

    2. Sounds like you know how to pick 'em, listener. [grin]

      Alan

Question re reflectors for the plowperson--to mark the side of the road, or your driveway? Up above the snow line around here they mark the sides of the roads with red-orange metal posts, taller the farther up into the mountains you go.

    3. Alan, the reflectors are set anywhere along and at the end of our driveway such that the plow guy gets it that he can't drive his big honking' truck on our lawn and leave heaps of gravel halfway up our hill, well beyond the driveway. The key is to set them close enough together that he can't drive between them. We keep them up along the driveway and in front of valued bushes, but take down the ones at the far end of the driveway so they don't bother our view of our lighted Christmas tree on the hill. They are, of course, essential to set out again just before a storm, so that the plow guy doesn't plow the snow right into the Christmas tree (as he did the first two times he came!). He's not a rocket surgeon.

  8. A summary of where the Trump/Russia investigation now stands (as far as is known to the public).[Click]
A nice summary of the big picture, with the noise tuned out. But it doesn’t get as far as the following (previously linked). Food for thought, indeed.—Alan

Nick Ackerman, a former Watergate prosecutor, told MSNBC that the big issue in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is not whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia, but whether it conspired to steal emails from prominent figures in the Democratic Party.

Said Ackerman: “I think the big enchilada here is the conspiracy to break into the Democratic National Committee in violation of the federal computer crime law and to use those emails to help Donald Trump get elected. All of that is motive as to why Donald Trump and others were endeavoring to obstruct the investigation, and why Donald Trump told James Comey to let the investigation on Michael Flynn go. All of this is going to come together in 2018.”

  10. So the West Cook DFA meeting was tonight. Only two of use managed to show up, until we were joined by an insurgent candidate for Cook County Treasurer. But in addition to hearing him talk about his ideas, Tim and I had a good conversation, including planning for the Attorney General candidate forum we and others will be sponsoring Sunday. And from now on we will be meeting on Thursday rather than Wednesday, which will let Eric join us.
