  1. Oh! As a former miniature-maker I just love that house!

    1. I'm afraid to ask if it includes the robin nests! Incredible!

  2. Facebook is very much an individualized, and customizable, experience. My sister's experience, for example, is mostly far more negative than mine. It depends entirely on who you interact with and under what conditions. As another example, I have largely cut Trump supporters and contact points with them as well as the more poisonous Clinton supporters and contact points with them out of my FB world. That's probably head-in-the-sand syndrome, but it makes my life somewhat less stressful.

    1. Yes, that was the point I was trying to make. Although I haven't actually unfriended anyone; it's just that almost everyone I've friended is a science fiction fan, and fans tend to be either liberal or, just maybe, libertarian. (I did ignore a friend request more than a year ago from someone whose posts seesed to consist exclusively of conservative rants.) I don't unfriend Brad Torgerson precisely because I realize the need to see alternative points of view. And I hope my occasional comments on his posts may serve the same function for his followers -- although I suspect 75% of them are immune to anything outside their own echo chamber.

And to Susan: Yes, I know I am a contrarian in several different senses of the word. That's who I am. I am sincerely sorry it annoys you.

  3. Currently reading The Greeks: A Great Adventure by Isaac Asimov and, needless to say, enjoying it.

  4. I knew I was reaching a serious threshold in doll making when I actually stopped to contemplate sewing chest hair on a Santa I was making.

  5. Susan, I just read your latest entry about your eye. EYEcarumba! I can easily imagine what you described and I know it is so hard to have this. It's mean! The most distinctive aspect is that it is extremely sensitive to touch and feels simultaneously itchy and burning. The vast majority of people who get this only ever get it once. I'm an exception. But if I were you, six weeks after going off the antiviral, I'd get the vaccine. That said, the vaccine is NOT a sure thing. But it can help. And anything that helps is golden, eh?
Are you allowed to ice it? I would think that could give you at least a temporary break from the OUUUUCH!! But the blisters are the worst. I would think that 3 or 4 days into the antiviral you'd be seeing improvement, no? How much are you taking? When I have full blown shingles, I take 500 mg of Famciclovir 3 x per day for a week, then go back to 250mg 2 x per day. I actually have enough on hand to cover the week if needed. I like to keep ahead of it, just incase.

  6. Susan, also, just want to say that when it's around your eye that's one thing. If it begins to affect your eye itself, that's quite another thing. If you BEGIN to get a red area on the TIP of your nose, call your ophthalmologist, as that may indicate it's beginning to affect your eye. (Sounds nutty, but it's quite true.) You don't want to lose sight.

  8. One more word for you, Susan: DIVERSION
Watch movies that really pull you in, and go ahead and have some ice cream or whatever is your favorite treat.

    1. It was already in my eye from the beginning. The ophthalmologist told me on Monday that I had the blisters on my eyeball. I'm going back this a.m. so he can check the pressure in my eye. The only time it really bothered me was when I couldn't open my eye on Tuesday. I have more diversion than any other human being I know. ;o).
