"Little Darlin', I see the ice is slowly melting..."

  1. One interpretation of Trump's attack on Syria that occurs to me, but I have not seen it in today's popular press commentary: that it is a sign of domestic political weakness. Time and again various countries' leaders have commenced wars or at least taken military action against other countries when faced with popular discontent they cannot deal with by domestic measures they are willing or able to carry out. In Trump's case it could well be a subconscious reaction.

    1. I have seen the headline, "Mr. Trump, the Syria Attack Will Not Make the American People Love You." Didn't bother to read the article, though. I guess I'm not looking for any explanation beyond impulsiveness.

    2. My immediate reaction to hearing of the attack on Syria was that it is a distraction from his woes at home.

OTOH a BBC report caught my attention. According to the Beeb, Arab social media is flooded with praise for Trump's acction. I for one don't quite know what to make of that; but, somehow, it does not fill me with confidence in Trump.

    3. It's no surprise that most Arab governments don't like Assad. He is too socialist for the Saudis. He's too secularist for Iran (which isn't Arab, of course.) He's too autocratic for governments that trace their origins to the Arab Spring. He's too ... Well, you get the idea.

    1. Bernie is my favourite American. Every day brings at least three reasons to wish he were our President. Interestingly, I never have that thought about HRC.

    2. LOL

Erm...I never have any thought about HRC.

    3. Nor does it ever occur to me to wish HRC were President. Occasionally Jim Hightower, on very rare occasions and just for a moment Kinky Friedman; but not HRC. I wouldn't rule out Gloria la Riva if it came down to a choice between the two. Betcha I've voted for a woman three times as often as HRC herself has, so I must be a misogynist, no? (The jury will disregard the witness's catty and uncalled for remark.)

    4. If you're going to wish for a horse, why not wish for the best?

  3. Diehard Trump Fans Revolt Over Syria Missile Strikes[Click] Hmmm…might it be that trying to distract from his domestic failures with a foreign attack backfired on him? Evidently he didn’t get the memo that air attacks don’t win wars—fifty million dollars’ worth (FOB) of cruise missiles and the airbase remains operational, if somewhat damaged; evidently there was no element of surprise.

How Long Can Trump Hold His Base?[Click] (The linked Elizabeth Drew article is a doozy…)

Too early to see what happened with the Gallup approval poll yet—that needs another two or three days since it is a moving average and today’s result isn’t posted yet. I hope for great things!

    1. What? Trump fans don't want to bomb at least some Muslims off the face of the Earth? I thought that was the main thing they elected the arsshole to do. There's no pleasing some people.

    2. Alan, your first link opens a YouTube channel called Stuck in Vermont. No, really, it does. I tried it twice. Weird!

    3. Cat is correct (both posts, actually), though I referring to the You Tube video. It's from the All-Day Sacred Harp Singing that took place in Irasburg in 2013 during a snowstorm.

  4. Just so nobody feels compelled to pull Sheriff Chuck out of retirement:

My fever has been down for over 24hours, so it looks like we're finally going to get to see Baby*Grandson this weekend. It's a shorter visit there than planned because my brother's wife's mother died last night, and we'll be going to see them as they sit Shiva. Then it's to a hotel for the night and I convene a meeting in Concord NH on Monday and home that evening. =Whew!=

Then Tuesday it's back to tending two little grands all day. (I can't even imagine doing that right now.) Wednesday I have two spiritual guidance meetings on the other side of Vermont. Thursday I curl up into a ball for the day (YEAH!) and Friday is a bit of faith observance followed by picking up 9 year old granddaughter from school for an overnight. Do I get excommunicated if I sleep straight through Easter? LOL!

  5. After about six weeks of pretty much no action on Mum's injured ankle, this week has been a whirl of activity.

Tuesday our massage therapist cum self-appointed guardian angel actually got Mum up and out and to the local X-ray place. )Aside: it blows my mind that there is such a thing as a local X-ray place.)

They communicated with an orthopedic practice. The X-ray looked so bad, they rearranged patients to get Mum in Wednesday. And she had surgery Thursday. She now has screws and a plate in her ankle. She has to inject in her tummy each evening for thirty days a medication to prevent blood clots. First followup visit on the Eighteenth of this month and the next, the Fifteenth of next month. I'm a bit fuzzy on other scheduled events, like when she gets her cast.

She felt very comfortable with the doctor and staff, which makes a tremendous difference! And, surprisingly, she is in good spirits. They have her on oxicotton (sp?) for the pain, one or two tablets every four hours. She's been taking two, which sort of scares me. But, she says the pain isn't too bad which, I suppose, is due to the dose. Anyway, she seems so far (knock on wood!) to be doing well.
