  2. MEM FOX!?!! Seriously?!!

THIS is not okay. Can anyone explain why on Earth they would detain an Australian (any Australian!) and why a famous Australian who had been to the USA 116 times before? I want an explanation!!

  3. There is no logical explanation. They're simply drunk with totalitarian power and acting out their long-held secret fantasies of hurting anyone they choose to.

  4. Unfortunately I'm going to have to type this whole thing out because I can't find a way to make it a link.

This was written by David Rothkopf, Professor of International Relations and Political Science (didn't get which school)

"Donald Trump, champion and avatar of the shallow state, has won power because his supporters are threatened by what they don't understand, and what they don't understand is almost everything. Indeed, from evolution to data about our economy to the science of vaccines to the threats we face in the world, they reject vast subjects rooted in fact in order to have reality conform to their worldviews. They don't dig for truth; they skim the media for anything that will make them feel better about themselves. To many of them, knowledge is not a useful tool but a cunning barrier elites have created to keep power from the average man and woman."

And I think that whole paragraph describes Cheetolini supporters *perfectly* and *accurately*.

    1. Foolishness rarely pays good dividends. And I wonder what their reaction will be when (or "if") they realized Trump has snookered them. I can well imagine widespread violence by white mobs and associated domestic terrorists, many of whom will consider themselves Christians. I hope not, of course--but what is their alternative? Giving up altogether and falling further into hopelessness?

    2. Well, you've got Wayne LaPierre standing up at the podium at CPAC telling the wingnuts to get their guns because the left wants to kill them. Which is the biggest and steamiest pile of horse hockey I've ever heard because EVERY threat of violence I've ever heard has come from the right - never the left.

  5. Democratic Groups Do Their Own Autopsy[Click] My translation: they are still clueless about why HRC lost. [Tom Perez] believes the party needs to go to the suburbs, the exburbs and rural America, and talk to people. [Wikipedia and reference cited therein.] Well, talk is cheap. Perhaps I do the man a disservice, but Perez strikes me as simply another “New Democrat,” and why should he be anything else given his background? Les Leopold’s column above [How to Build a Sustainable Trump Resistance] is relevant, I think.

    1. I don't know about the suburbs, although that is where I will be working because it's where I can get to. But we need to target rural America because those, even more than the rest of us, are the people being screwed by the billionaires and the people who benefit from Democratic policies.
Medicare for All is cheap? Not really. But it's still talk until we get enough people -- and that especially means those in underserved rural areas -- to see that it's something they need to vote for.

    2. Well, I figure actions speak louder than words, and the New Democrats have been laying waste to the New Deal for roughly forty years. I figure the New Democrats have simply run out of steam and credibility, but don't know how to be anything else and still control the party--what used to be MY party. Since Pete Wilson wrecked the California GOP's electoral fortunes in California, the Dems have turned their backs on us. Since they snookered people into voting for top-two primaries, so many general election races are Democrat vs. Democrat that they care even less. Oh, well. Pardon an old grouch.

    3. This is about who the Democratic Party needs to talk to, not about what it says. I don't think Perez is particularly New Democrat, although the New Democrats were willing to support him as the alternative to Ellison. But in any case it's not the DNC's job to pick the candidates or to tell them what to say. (Yes, last year's DNC picked the candidate. But that was inappropriate.)

  6. Here's a pretty good article that questions the survival of the Democratic party:

    https://medium.com/theyoungturks/are-multi-million-dollar-consulting-contracts-worth-the-future-of-the-democratic-party-24713ecba480#.54nb74m9h

Bottom line question: Where did all that money go?

    1. Well crud. I clicked on the link and got a 404 error. But the article was saying that the Democrats raised all those buckets of money, still lost and nobody knows where the money went.

    1. One nice point--a sitting President can't be prosecuted; but once out of office s/he can be prosecuted. The President is not immune from the law.

      --Alanb

P.S.: And now it is clear that a President can be sued for things he did before he was President...

P.P.S.: I wonder if someone will request a writ of mandamus ordering the Government Services Administration to revoke Trump's lease on the Old Post Office building, in accordance with lease's explicit terms. It's early days for that--bureaucratic procedures take time. But by the end of this year the issue might ripen.
