  1. My last two Christmas presents arrived today (today here; Wednesday)--sent from Milan by registered mail on December 2nd and 13th. A pair of Pelikan fountain pens, manufactured about 1983 and 1993 respectively, both very lightly used. Both hold a lot of ink; the older one has the better nib--truly smooth as butter (it's medium, which helps). Very slight adjustments of the nibs might be in order, but not right away. Filled them with Noodler's Black Eel ink, which is intended for piston-filling pens like Pelikans, and has a bit of lubricant. Pelikan nibs are said to get better the further back in time one goes, but the pen materials and manufacturing improved significantly around 1970.

I had a good laugh when I realized all my fountain pens are brands starting with the letter "P": Parker (my father's), Pilot, Platinium and now Pelikan! That's enough.

The Pelikans are too good for knockabout use at work, but I will take them tomorrow to experiment with various types of paper. For knockabout fountain pens I continue to favor the Pilot "disposable" fountain pens, which I have learned to refill easily.

I remain convinced that changing from ballpoint pens to fountain pens relieved a lot of the pain in my writing hand.

  2. Oh wow! I was rooting through some papers and I found this one I printed out in 1998. All of these quotes are from Dan Quayle!

It isn't the pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.

It's wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago.

I was recently on a tour in Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people.

    1. LOL

On the other hand, he tried. I mean, compared to pure evil, Dan Quayle's really quite harmless.

    2. All I could think of what the Murphy Brown episode where Murphy quotes Quayle as saying in an address to the UNCF (United African-American College Fund) "A mind is a terrible thing to lose, or not to have at all." Note: The UNCF's slogan is "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."

  3. Quayle was a loon.

Joke that went around at the Secret Service. Did you hear, Quayle has brain cancer? Gasp! It'll be okay--they'll remove the breast, and she'll get chemo. . . .
