  1. Renee is also First.

I just learned that, last Saturday, Renee fell on ice and fractured her right elbow! :-( She had surgery on Friday, which went well. Note: Renee is right-handed.

Yikes! My dental tech broke her elbow and it took her several months to recover. Sending love to Renee!

    2. The good, and very welcome, news is that they did the surgery right away. When I broke my right elbow long, long ago it took them a month or more to decide it wasn't going to heal just with casting.

  2. Renee! Get well soon! Ouch!

P.S.: We have my great-grandparents' goose platter--longer and skinnier than a turkey platter; closer to the proportions of a fish platter, but much bigger. I continue to contemplate getting a free-range turkey some day, but they are quite expensive compared to the regular ones. And at Costco Thursday evening I was struck by how many "organic" foods are stocked. Probably most of them are organic by FDA definition, rather than California definition, which is stricter.

  3. I think I might be the only person who hates poultry of any type. Never eat it, though I cook it for Son #2.

  4. That must make for odd Thanksgivings, Susan?

Alan, I'd not thought of that, but makes sense given how different the shapes of the two are. With duck in between.

Our turkey this year is not wholly organic, but it IS non-anti-biotic, and non-hormone. So that's a surprise.

    1. And a relief, I should think.

    2. I resigned from T-day and Christmas do-dads two years ago. But back when I *did* do T-day I cooked both a turkey and a meatloaf. And one year I even made the meatloaf in the shape of a roasted turkey.

    3. Why, you were half-way to a tofurkey, Susan! There are so many alternate festive alternatives to turkey...

Speaking of meatloaf, when it was a very cheap source of protein (shelved with the pet food), I used canned mackerel to make a meatloaf, and it was delicious. Then one day I noticed it was no longer in the pet food section, and on a hunch I walked around to the canned fish section (tuna/salmon/sardines and suchlike), and there it was--for three times the price.

  5. Saw the President and First Lady's last Christmas message on Google. I am *really* going to miss them!

Most of the comments were hateful and vial and ignorant - still saying he's Muslim - and just overflowing with the most virulent hate. It was very frightening. And they call Trump a good man, the monster who has given all the haters permission to spew their battery acid all over everyone and everything? Unbelievable! Was feeling a little better, but now I'm abjectly frightened again. How can you counter visceral, unthinking hatred? And it's not just t he Obamas they hate, it's everyone who isn't them.

    1. It won't be long before they realize how badly they've been had and turn their hate on trump.

    2. As I posted in a reply of Facebook today, we need to ignore idiotic remarks by idiots.

    3. I very much hope you're right, Susan!

Of course, Bill, don't answer them. But the hatred and rage is simply breathtaking.

    4. When I said "ignore," I meant pay no attention whatsoever. Pretend to yourself that you never saw them.

  6. Another place I blog, they seem to be getting most of their joy not from them winning, but from us losing. I gather they've really really hated our guts for a long long time.

  7. Hmmm.....maybe I will have some sardines and crackers.

  8. Susan, I don't think they'll come to hate Trump. I don't think they have the brain cells to figure out that he'll have done it. If they had those cells to begin with, he wouldn't be P-E. . . .

    1. Well, the majority of them came to hate Bush and Trump is multitudes of times worse, and a lot of what he plans is going to hurt them even more than it hurts us.

    2. I'm afraid Puddle is right. They aren't bright enough to blame or hate Trump. Instead they'll turn their frustration and violence, and firearms, on us.
