This is a long read, but a good one and accurate. Sorry about the cut and paste. Computer knowledge refuses to live in my brain.

    2. Thar's a very good description of the current political climate and the campaign strategy Hillary used to win the nomination and probably the presidency. But I don't think anyone can really predict what a Hillary presidency would be like. Campaign strategy does not necessarily predict in-office policy. That's especially true when the strategy is so obviously calculated as Hillary's was. Then there's relations with Congress, which so strongly shaped Obama's presidency. No one knows what that will be like in 2017, much less 2019 and beyond. Then there's always the unexpected. No one could have predicted the oil price shocks of the '70s, and while the financial crisis of 2008 was theoretically foreseeable, no one actually foresaw it. How will Hillary react to the unexpected events of her presidency? I don't know, and neither does anyone else. In fact, all these uncertainties are why I wish we had a better alternative. (Yes, I know. We *had* a better alternative. )

    3. It is, however, a significant indicator of character.

  3. Thanks for the link posting info, listener. I wrote it down in my "Remember It" book so I won't lose it again.

And, yes, I do think Hillary would have a chaotic presidency. She is people-blind the way some people are color-blind. She has no contact with "regular people", no idea of the kinds of lives they lead and can't relate to them in any way. When a "leader" doesn't understand the people they're supposed to be "leading" that's a recipe for disaster.

  4. Ain't it the truth? And this is not a quality I personally find requisite or even particularly desirable in a president.

  5. The other day I mentioned a volume of stories by E. Nesbit. Well, I got distracted and over the past few days read instead Robert J. Sawyer's Factoring Humanity and enjoyed it. I have long toyed with the idea of being able to enter another's mind, see his dreams, leaf through his memories; but Sawyer systematizes the concept and presentsa coherent way to do it and rationale for justifying doing it. There's a great deal more to the book as well, of course. He's so thoughtful. He and Rajnar Vajra are my favorite contemporary SF writers. Incredibly creative and thought provoking, both of them.

  6. listener--the line in the WaPo article you linked about the potential effects of an FBI certification of naughtiness for HRC that particularly caught my attention was this (emphasis added):

"There would be doubts bordering on panic about What It All Means for Clinton going into the fall campaign, and she would have very little time to turn the story back in her favor."

Ah, yes--doubts bordering on panic; love it. And then there was the WaPo columnist contemplating DT telling the GOP that he is tired of funding his own campaign, and they had better start funding it if they want him to show up. Nice variation on the idea of telling that big bunch of losers to take their nomination and shove it. The whole thing makes me wonder if DT might not be an agent for Clinton!

I don't see why people should be questioning a chance meeting between Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton on a private plane at the Phoenix airport; why, I remember the nice sociable chat I had with Loretta when we just happened to find ourselves on the same Gulfstream parked on the far side of the airport at Sheboygen!

P.S.: I stand by my stated opinion that there is certainly time for one or more of the Clintons' skeletons to come dancing out of its closet before the convention.
