I just got a Hand-Written Letter from my Rep, Peter Welch, in support of the National Nurse Act!

  1. Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders in dead heat for California [Click] Data gathered during the third week of May. Previous polls had HRCC ahead about 60:40 (or even more). This is a reputable poll in California.

Bernie Rally moved from park amphitheater seating 3,500 to Fresno Fairgrounds theater seating 5,000 with overflow listening area. And they added another stop in Visalia, a fair-sized town a couple of counties to the south. After decades of being fly-over territory, this is frankly amazing!

I don't know about anyone mopping the floor with anyone else in a Bernie vs Trump "debate," but Bernie will be doing something HRC hasn't dared; even Elizabeth Warren has only been lobbing the occasional shell, not directly engaging him. Bernie will be demonstrating what the Democratic nominee can expect in the general campaign. The fact that DT and Bernie share the same general positions on Social Security, Medicare, foreign trade agreements and some other things should also provide an interesting dynamic.

Trump candidacy spurs Latinos to seek citizenship, register to vote

Almost 25 percent more immigrants became citizens in Fresno last year compared to 2014

Registration of Latino voters in Fresno doubled from 2012 to this year

Some say the trends are because of Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric

  3. DT in Fresno [Click] Quite a few empty seats at the arena, moderate interactions of protesters, almost no arrests, no tear gas. Highway patrol provides escort as speaker’s “motorcade” makes a quick getaway from underground garage.

  6. Puddle, I'm afraid that not only will Trump supporters take no notice if Bernie decisively defeats their candidate in an open and fair debate, my hunch is HRC supporters will take as little notice.

Yesterday Mum told me the current fantasy as purveyed by MSNBC: If HRC withdraws, the nomination will not in any circumstances go to Bernie. Joe Biden would get it, which I suppose means the convention would draft him, or perhaps Al Gore. I have heard snippets over the past few days of Biden saying he would like the nomination, that he is ready, that he would have run in the primaries but the timing wasn't right. Ahem, excuse me if I don't find any of that terribly impressive. If you want your party's nomination, you run for it in the primaries. You don't sit around being vice presidential and then come in in May, before the primaries are even over, saying you're Mr. Perfect for it.

I don't know enough about Biden to say, but it's clear to me that HRC supporters as a group are mad as hatters, totally blinded by adoration for their fearless leader and unable to recognize reality when it is staring them in the face. They also have a certain viciousness that is never far from the surface.

    1. I figure Joe Biden is a decent man, has had more than his share of experiences I wouldn't wish on anyone, and has grown because of them. But he is far too much the warhawk for my tastes.

Jill Stein is about to field an new slogan, which I like:

The Greater Good, Not The Lesser Evil!

HRC's campaign slogan team has definitely been deficient, and I think that is a significant part of her inability to articulate a compelling argument to vote for her. Whenever I hear or see her "She is fighting for us" slogan, I think of the old Lone Ranger and Tonto joke, the punch line of which (probably paraphrased a bit) is "What do you mean, 'us,' white man?" Whoever her "us" is, I am pretty sure it doesn't include me or most of the people in the country. But consider the source.

On a brighter note, I am indeed looking forward to the Bernie rally in Fresno. The weather should be OK, and I figure a person might as well go to a political rally every seventy years or so.

    2. Alan, when Hillary says "Fighting for Us" she means herself and Bill.

    1. Bowed out?? Oh, you must mean from the debate. Who can blame him?

    2. What, of the debate? rats! I was getting excited about watching it. That Jimmy Kimmle (sp?) person volunteered to moderate - I saw it on Entertainment Tonight so it must be true. And all the networks were interested in carrying it.

I can't decide if Trump is a lousy, slimy bastard for weaseling out or if doing so is the first indication of intelligence he's shown all campaign.

    3. Cowards. Both Trump and Hillary seem afraid to debate Bernie. I think Bernie should just hold a public Q&A or have a televised conversation with some intelligent people about real issues.

    4. Oh but he does. He's on television all the time. And a few months back I stumbled across a video on YouTube - don't know if it was a TV show or purpose made for YouTube - where he was talking with a young black man - well, not so young, he said he was forty - who I gather is a rapper called Killer Mike. A very intelligent, engaged fellow, and *very* enthusiastic about Bernie.

  8. They're a couple of wusses, they are.

I have been cogitating about a rally sign for two or three days. Same basic design as the picket signs I made several years ago--dark yellow card stock letters on black foam board, which comes 20 by 30 inches--too big for a rally sign, but 20 inches wide is OK, height to fit lettering. On one side (this ought to identify me to the cognoscenti as a Deaniac):

    Bernie--
    Zounds!

    On the other:
    Vote
    Greater Good
    Not
    Lesser Evil

    [Apologies to Jill Stein]

The lettering is easy to make--print in an outline font on card stock, cut out with an Exacto knife, use spray adhesive on the backs, and stick in place. The word processor won't have big enough fonts , but I can set the font as big as it will go, then print at 200% or whatever is needed.

That ought to fit on a 10 by 20 inch sign, if my estimator is working OK.
