Lilies in the Rain

  1. Zounds! Estimated 27,500 turned out for Bernie in LA. Photos HERE [Click]

This morning's coverage in the LA Times (a far poorer newspaper than it used to be since the family that owned it sold to investors from back east) indicates that the journalists there are just beginning to realize that the Sanders campaign might be significant; but they really don't seem to have figured it out. I should point out that typical presidential campaign appearances in LA are at thousand dollar (or more) a plate dinners in Hollywood. Bernie is drawing a completely different demographic.

  3. Low-key 79th birthday. Birthday wishes from family and a surprising number of the companies I deal with. Marc made special deserts for my birthday -- brownies and chocolate cookies. (Yes, I said chocolate, not chocolate chip.)

And put my mind at rest by tightening all the screws on my new computer desk. Some of the screws needed tightening, but it's now clear that most of the rocking back and forth that has been bothering me is due to uneven floor. These things happen over the course of a century and a quarter, I guess. Probably need to stick something under the right front wheel.

Also made some progress on the grant application. This has been a headache for months, partially because it's a bit different from anything we've done before. A couple of weeks ago we decided that none of the things we had been trying were going to work, so (at the researchers' suggestion) switched to something quite different. Everything fits together now. Just wish we had more time. I leave for Worldcon in Spokane on Saturday, and there will be only 2 weeks until deadline after I get back.

    1. Bill, which day was your birthday? HAPPY HAPPY!! 79 is a very young sounding number to me. Next year will be quite an achievement, too! :-)

  5. Bill, a most happy HAPPY! I've got four years, and a little over month to get there. I want you to prove to me how good it can be!

  6. 79? Yep, a good start. Seventy is the new forty, I figure. Person's got a right to take it a bit easy at that point, not that it's mandatory. And when in doubt take chocolate. Enjoy!

I had to give up on our old Canon printer--couldn't get it fixed in time for the disc printing jobs I had piling up, so installed a new Epson printer I had on hand as a backup. Got it working now, and got the hang of the new software as well as the new hardware. I think I can speed it up a bit by reducing the resolution of the files, but that can wait for the next job. Got two sets of 10 discs labeled, that's good enough for now.
